Does anyone know if Weavers ( grand slam) are still made in Japan by light optics works?( LOW) The old grand slams made there were great. I would like to know if they are still produced there.
Thanks!

Historically speaking, Weaver scopes have been made in Japan for years. It is generally accepted that LOW manufactures all or almost all of Weaver's scopes though they might not acknowledge it. This is possibly changing with a new entry level product being made in the Philippines, but my understanding is the rest of the scopes continue to be made in Japan.

Their newer top of the line, the Super Slams, are made in Japan. I don't know about the Grand Slams.

Natchezss, almost the go to place for Weaver these days because they buy entire production runs just for themselves, will tell you what is printed on the box if you ask. I think the Super Slams are excellent and compete with higher dollar scopes optically and in turret quality, but are very heavy as well.

My Weaver that was a place below the Grand Slam in their line up is made in Japan. The Kaspa series is made in China IIRC. 44/40s I believe are Phillipines. I think Classic on up are made in Japan. Natchez Shooters Supply has great prices on Weavers. I have ordered from them many times before. They are good to do business with. They could probably answer the question for you. Their customer service has been very good to me.

I have a couple of Weaver 40/44s on two of my rifles. They are pretty clear but in low light not as good as my Meopro, Leupold Var X III, or Vortex Viper. The 40/44s are made in the Philippines.

I bought a 2.8-10x 44mm 40/44 from Natchez several years ago for $100 and a 3-9x 40mm 40/44 ftrom Midway a few months ago for $75.

As far as I know, that is correct.
LOW also makes the Bushnell Elite scopes, and various scopes for other brands. A couple new companies (Tract, maybe Athlon?) are having LOW make scopes for them.

I've had a couple Japanese-made V-series Weavers, that are/were fantastic. Eveyone that's looked through them has been very impressed with the glass quality (they blow away the 3200-series Bushnell Elites and are easily on par with the nicer 4200.)
We have a few members here that are in the buisness, and I've heard a few of them say a number of times that the Weavers are one of the best kept secrets in optics. If I was in the market for another scope, Weaver would definitely be a contender.

I just bought a grand slam a month ago on sale and it was made in Japan.
Optic quality seems to be pretty good.
