Thinking of having a custom rifle made by Cooper of Montana, after seeing some in a recent thread here (the rifle picture there concurrently running).

How's this grab ya?

HB / Benchrest style in 6.5mm-'06 (either the LVT, the Varminter, Montana Varminter, Varmint extreme, or TRP-3)

March 50x52 scope.

Which style should I run with? And would I want a model 22 or model 52 action? Think they would even do a caliber not listed there - anyone know?:

I'd shoot a Remington before that jerkoff got a penny from me.

Yeah, he doesn't work there any more, but is he 100% divested? I sincerely doubt it.

Oh that's right, the Obama fan - almost forgot about that; hmmmmm.

Are you dissin' Remington, AB? :p

Also, should I go:

6.5mm-'06

or

6.5mm-'06 AI?

IMO, if you are going with a wildcat already, why not have fun and go with the Ackley? Plus, the 6.5-06 AI has always intriged me. :D

On the issue of Dan, I personally think the company has shown their colors firing him, unless something else comes up, I would have no problem buying a rifle from them. (not that I want one particularly...)

The only chamberings Cooper offers in the .264" bore is the 6.5x55 and 6.5x284 and that would be in the M22.
While on the topic of 6.5's, I built this 6.5 Gibbs on a 700 action 15 years ago. It's a hot little round but does require some time forming cases.

Case forming involves moving the shoulder forward appx 1/10"

dubbleA, aren't you the one with a whole slough of Cooper rifles? And then you come on and show us that bee-yoot? Assuming there's a rifle as described in that pic - I can't see one. :p

I'd never heard of 6.5 Gibbs...until today.

Yeah, kinda what I'm thinkin...... :)

I think you'll get sick of fabricating wildcat brass for the small benefit it gives.
I would go with 6.5x284 with good factory brass available.

I agree...I know that I would...but if you do go with a wildcat go with the one that is the easiest to acquire/create with the largest gain in overall performance...that usually means one of the many AI cartridges. :)

Yep. I would never buy from him either.

Other than that Doc, knock yourself out. I can't tell what you would like in a rifle, only you know. :)
