I have this full-frame/ 3-1/2 barrel 1911 I put together a bit back, and it keeps evolving. Recently it got a trigger-job, new hammer and a bob-tail. Even more recently it got ported, a modified slice and a new sight system. I had this idea for a fiber-optic gutter sight and thought, 'If this was a good idea someone would have done it.' Being me I immediately went out to the shop, fabricated the sight and installed it, then headed over to the range to try it out. This rapid-fire group was the 6-10th rounds through the gun with this sight, fired rapid-fire at seven yards. Holy crap batman, it works! I grabbed the RO (Tyrone) and told him to try it. he proceeded to produce a credible group at 7-yards. He and everyone else that tried it found the sight fast and intuitive.
Since I didn't need the rear sight anymore and I'm a weirdo I recontoured the rear of the slide to remove the Novak cut. I think the gun has reached it's final form, excepting that I will refinish it.
I like this quite a lot and want to do more testing with this sight. It's odd but effective. My kid says that also describes me, so it's a good fit.
