I recently bought a surplus mosin that was caked in Cosmoline. I took it apart and removed all the Cosmoline and put it back together. However now when the safety is engaged I can still pull the trigger, it doesn’t fire/ do anything. And when the safety is off It fires like normal. I took it apart again and could not find any issues. Is this a concern?or should I not bother with it.

The Mosin Nagant safety design won't lock up the trigger -- instead, it keeps the cocking piece from moving forward and pushing the firing pin into the primer. When the safety is on, the (somewhat powerful) spring tension holds the cocking piece on the receiver -- this also locks the bolt closed. The trigger and sear are still free to move, but moving them won't cause the rifle to fire when the safety is properly activated.

If everything was reassembled correctly, this sounds like a normal situation to me and is not a cause for concern.
