now I know there are a lot of opinions out there about keeping mosin-nagant rifles stock but I have a mix and matched rifle that has an awful stock. it has almost no collector value.

that said and "purist" opinions aside, I want to put a new, preferibly polymer, stock on my 91/30.

I have read some pretty awful reviews on the ati stocks and I was wondering if anyone had some advice on any other brands or even if someone knows of anyone that makes some.

I am a huge fan of dragunov style stocks so if any of those are out there for nagant rifles I would be over-joyed to find one.

thanks in advance.

I have never seen another brand, but did have great luck with an ATI stock. Turned out, I had a very rare Mosin so I got rid of the ATI stock but the fit was very nice.

Adding an ATI stock to one of my M44's was a non issue. It fits well and reduces the recoil of those sassy surplus 7.62x54R rounds. I did remove the bayonet and bracket to cut the weight a little.

go to Boyds and buy the RIA walnut stock for the Mosin, finish it yourself using several coats of a really dark stain, then hand rub several coats of boiled linseed oil and polish it with rotten stone. You will have a great rifle stock and the finish will almost look synthetic, plus it is easy to pillar bed an unfinished stock or have some one do it for you, with a pillar bedded action and a floated barrel I bet you'll have a great rifle.

I don't know where you've been hearing bad things about the ATI stocks, but you won't hear them from me or my buddies. Between us we have several, and they've been great (I have one on a M-N I like a lot). Plus the fact there's a lifetime warranty on them. I mangled a Hi-Point carbine stock (my fault) and they replaced the whole stock kit, not just the part I ruined. Yep, I'd say you can buy an ATI with confidence...

hmm I guess I should take another look...

it does seem that most of the bad reviews I've seen came from a couple years ago on other forums and I guess most people only bring it up when they have a problem with it haha

thanks for all the help, knew I could count on THR

ATI work well enough. As an aside, there's nothing "impure" about swapping the stocks. I have an M39 sporter stock I used as "field pants" for a Mosin with a very nice tiger stripe that I didn't want to mar. Swapping stocks does nothing to alter the rifle permanently.
