what do you think?

They're not BAD lookin, but the breacher compensator thingy kind of throws off the looks of the gun.

Some people think this is pretty....

Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

It certainly IS beautiful, if you need to destroy lock mechanisms on doors often enough that a breeching standoff makes your job easier on a routine basis.

If you aren't the point man on a dynamic entry team then this modification is not beautiful.

Are you the point man on a dynamic entry team?

It's a good looking tactical shotgun. You will have those who poke fun at it b/c it is "tactical". It is a bit of a gimmick, but so are the majority of add ons for AR's, AK's. Decorative grips on pistols and revolvers don't increase performance, but they just add another dimension of appearance. The breacher end on the Mossy 500 could be used as an effective defensive weapon as well. The ends are quite sharp and would put a hurting on someone if you are trying to hold them off if for some reason you can't or shouldn't shoot. By the way, I have one of them :neener: with more add-ons a) b/c it is fun and b) b/c I can. I may get a regular barrel for it at some point to shoot clays with, although I have shot plenty of clays with this one just having a good time with the fellas.

Awwwww, Jeeez! That poor M1a! That SOCOM crap is bad enough, but *that*...that is just wrong!

Nice Mossies, though.

Don't care how it looks - I care how it shoots. I've never bought a shotgun based on looks, but I have bought some based on how well they worked.

:)

no i am not. but when i get out of the military in about four years i am hoping to be a linn Co. sherrifs deputy and to apply to be on the county's SWAT team in which case i could very well be point on an entry team.
bhmbill what is that? it kinda looks like a SA M1A1, or a mini 14/30, with some custom billet alum stock.

I disagree... that is frickin' cool.

I can't help it if you have no taste. :D

As for the mossy... yeah, I could do without the schnozz.

I put a shorty Houge stock and forend on mine. It looked so good a guy bought it right out of my hands! The only downside to it was the same as any other short-barrel, compensated gun...it was LOUD! But it was fun to show up at skeet shoots with it. People would line up for a chance to shoot it.

I turned the money into an M1 Benelli.

Relax dude, I'm sure you have some things on one of your 1911s you don't necessarily need. As far as modifications, that version of the 500 comes with the breacher. I have one. I don't consider it a breacher though, I consider it a short bayonet :).

I got a good deal on one just like the one pictured. A compact 12ga is hard to beat for home protection.

The crucial question is.....

How does it shoot?

I may have to wait a while for an answer I can trust. I just do not see folks with these at the range.

I can shoot clays consistently with it that are thrown out of a single cheap-o thrower. They are not that far out, maybe 100-150', but that is closer than the boogie man in my house, which is the primary purpose of this firearm. I haven't really target shot with it more than a few rounds to be honest. I did shoot up a phone book from about 20 yds :)

However, it is not a $2000.00 duck gun, it is a $300.00 home defense gun.

Something really bothers me.

If I hear BOOM BOOM of a bad guy breaching my door without the effort of kicking in, things are going to happen very fast. With me or wife already way behind in our run down the drill and running late.

I wonder if there is a way to have a sort of a very large "Drop Plate" cut to spec so that when it swings shut, it will sort of close over and around the regular door knob and secure that part of the entire side of the door to the wall.

That way breaching rounds wont get through the big plate and the BG will have to resort to kicking. I might have to see if the metals facility in our area can custom cut a pair for our doors. The problem is the door knob hole itself and enough angle to reach the wall next to the door to pin or latch to.

If big plate is big screwed into walls correctly, it might stand up to a rammer for a few blows. Just long enough to get armed and "Up"

Or should I simply use a old style Bar across the door from either side of the frame itself?

I like mine. I don't know how well it compares to other shotguns in this regard, but I can certainly hit what I point it at, and the action is a typical Mossberg, which in my opinion, is a very good thing.

With the Eotech on it, it's the quickest shotgun I currently own.

We did have a few at the range last year. All I can say about it, and I do have a 500 w/o the breacher, is DON'T try using the breacher unless you have body armor and a face shield with a helmet. You will get hurt. The breacher is designed to be pressed against the lock, door knob/dead bolt. When the operator fires the round crap gets thrown everywhere. It does the job but for the civilian user it's just a "pretty" thing. I posted about the breacher last year after finding out what actually happened. The local LE's were training at the range and we saw the results. It is only issued to SWAT who have the training. I don't think they even use it now.
For those who have bought one don't even think about trying the breacher, It could very easily send you to the hospital.

As a non-LEO or non-military man, I would see no reason to ever use it as a breacher unless I was doing something illegal. If I loose my keys to my shed, I don't think I will blow the lock off with my shotgun :)
The only way I could ever thing I would use it in that way is if my life or family members life depended on it, and I think that would be very very unlikely.

Honestly, I think it's just as much of a gimmick to go around hating something just because it's tactical.

We get it, you like sodbusters and wood. :D

Now if I am remembering correctly breachers are for the hinges on the door, not the door nob or locks which may be sliding eight inch bars. Just blow off the hinges that have half inch screws and you are in. AR 10, if those cops you saw really did try to blow the lock off then they did not read the instructions.

I do not mind the shotguns but I really feel sorry for that M1A. I do agree that some people will call foul with one gun and then load their gun up like a Christmas tree. I guess am one of them. :banghead:
