I've been having trouble with the action on my Mossberg not cycling without the action release button being pushed in. After inspecting every thing closely I found that one of the pins in the hammer had worked it's way out. I took the hammer out and pushed the pin back in. After reassembling everything it worked fine but after about a dozen cycles it started doing it again. After taking it apart I found the pin worked its way out again. How can I keep this from happening?

Here's a pic of the hammer and pin.

The hammer pin should be the width of the trigger group to retain it.....that pin in the photo appears to be barely the width of the hammer.....no wonder it's not retaining the hammer !

The pin in the pic is one that resides in the hammer and isn't quite the width of the hammer. The one that holds the hammer in the trigger group is the width of the housing. Sorry for the confusion.

use a small hard center punch and dimple it on both sides. don't crush the hammer.

I did what you said but only dimpled the pin on the side that it was coming out of. I couldn't move it either way by putting medium pressure on it with the punch. So far it works just fine and hasn't moved after cycling the gun more than a dozen times. I will keep checking it as time goes on and if it starts to move again I will dimple both side next time.

Thanks for the help. I'm not new to guns but have no idea what to do when you get this far into one.
