Most accurate/reliable rifle?

Springfield Armory M1A for me with 168gr. match bullets and a Leupold Mk 2 scope. Or with NM irons.

I know it wasn't mentioned in the first post, but is cost a factor at all? Are you really shopping or just wishing? Cost always comes into play and in this instance, it would help to narrow the cartridge down to a single unit. I also take it "out of box" means that you want something you can still get brand new and hopefully serviced or parts for??

If you only had less than 500.00 that is a whole different set of availables than if you have 2k to spend. And then are you really interested in some foreign caliber like 7.62 x 39? Or the French 7.5 x 54?

Did you come to a conclusion on what YOU might be looking for? These posts always stay so open ended.

The mini 14 can be a nice little carbine if you are on a budget. But it is not known for it's accuracy. Price (estimated) 450.00 - 600.00

The AR 15 rifles are great performers, with accuracy and reliability on their side, as long as you keep them clean. price 800 - 1200

AK's, ultra reliable (as long as the builder does their part) but not known for accuracy. price 400 - 900

Other choices in ARs and 5.56, AR-180, Daewoo K-2, XCR, M-96, Sig 556, FS 2000, M-17, plus a few other harder to get things like FAMAS and original SIG 550 or FNC.

There are the old standbys like M-1 carbine, M-1 Rifle, FN-49, Hakim, Mas 49/56, Rashid, Johnson 1941, Century M-53, RPD, RPK, etc., etc. Older designs but reliable and some can be very accurate.

Then the ever popular 7.62 x 51 FALs, HK-91, Cetme, L1A1, M1A, AR-10s, SR-25s, Sig AMT, Saigas, Valmet, Galil, even the new Kel-Tec RFB.

You can see there are lots of choices and lots of opinions. I suspect that anything used by a tried and true military body will give you good service. Reed Knights SR-25 is used by SEALS and other Special Forces units. That is a pretty big endorsement. It is supremely accurate and if cared for properly and fed properly, is also reliable. But it will set you back at least 3k. And with that said, I believe you have some reading to do. Eventually it will be YOUR opinion that will count as well. All the best.

Hmmm... no one has mentioned the Browning BAR... available in .243 Win and up... I've heard these are very accurate out of the box...

Seeing how a budget hasn't been mentioned...

WOW...Love that SIG 510 AMT. Always wanted one of those.... wanna sell it?
I know... stupid question. :D

How's it shooting-
Original or kit?

Whatever it is, it is a great looking rifle. I got a chance to shoot one of these fine rifles a couple of years ago... still not over it.hehehe:D

My most accurate and reliable rifle is my Crazy Horse US NAVY MK14 SEI MOD 0.
It's a sub MOA performer right out of the box Smith Enterprise, Inc. shipped it in.

I have heard more then a few people suggest that the VEPR II is the ideal combination of accuracy and reliability---any thoughts?

Barrett M107.

Reliable? sure. Semi auto, yes. Long range accuracy? Most others can't even shoot as far, they fail.

Clearly the reliable, semi auto, long distance precision rifle of choice when you really need to reach out and touch someone.

I don't if how well this applies to firearms, but it's the way of the world for cars. Of the following three you can only have two.

1, Fast
2, Cheap
3, Reliable

For me, I'd say the best combination of the three requirements that you have would be an AR platform. I love the Saiga that I have, but it doesn't hold a flame to AR's that I've shot in terms of accuracy.

Let me come at this from a different angle---is there an AR that is as reliable as an AK?

I have three Mosin Nagant rifles that will shoot 1 inch or better. I paid 70 bucks, 90 bucks, and 150 bucks for them. They do this with Privi 150 gr sp ammo. Of course the Finns tweaked them a bit before I got them and they finished using them in the winter war...chris3

Twas my Mohawk 600. But tonight I looked threw the Ednar scope on it,& the elevation hair had fricken come loose or drooped on the right side. Was just out hunting coyotes with it Sunday. That Ednar had been on that rifle since the early 80s. Never had to mess with zero. EVER
R.I.P Mr Ednar 3x9-32

I would probably say that the FN SCAR is high up on the list but I don't think there is a way to determine which is really number one, two, three and so on.

From my personal experience and from what I've read about how well the SCAR has performed in military tests I would say that it is probably a contender for the number one spot.

I think the 7.62x51mm AR has the potential to be exceptional in both accuracy and reliability. The USGI M110 Semiautomatic Sniper System guarantees under .4 MOA - and based on my experience shooting it it delivers that and then some. Since Knight's is the only manufacturer of the M110 they would be good folks to talk to - but I'm also impressed by the rifles I've seen from Fulton Armory. I would stay away from the LAR-8 or Armalite designs, as both use proprietary parts that the others do not. Plus, I really like the 7.62 Magpul magazines - which will fit in any DPMS, Knight's, or Fulton rifle or similar.

My opinion only!

had to go back and read the OP to answer.

the most accurate and reliable rifle i have owned was an H-Bar AR. it could do anything any of my scoped rifles can do but with battle sights. it never jamed and never missed. that thing was nuts and i wish i still had it.

Normally the more accurate you try to make a gun the tighter the tolerances end up being. The tighter the tolerances normally the less reliable.

One of the most accurate semi-auto rifles I ever owned was a SIG AMT
Most reliable semi-auto I have owned is my Hakim
Best in terms of reliable and accurate FN/FAL
