Most comfortable revolver chambered in .357?

Forgot to type the rest. Senior moment.

I own a few Ruger 3 screw in 357 and a Ruger BlackHawk 2nd Gen in 45 Colt/45ACP.
I also own a few K frame type revolvers plus a nifty Dan Wesson with a 3" slab side barrel.

Same application. I think I could take a decent shooter who has never shot a single action and impress the shooter how comfortable the plow handle can be.

When I shoot the elephant loads, I do not use the pinky on bottom. I let her roll up and pull my hand in the air as she goes.

Final point. There is a famous competition shooter that takes single actions to Africa to take Cape Buffalo and the like. Linebaugh comes to mind. The 454came out as a single action. BFRs are single action. The Howdow's grip look like the single action.

You would think that Smith & Wesson would have developed a single action for their elephant killers.

When I think comfort in a DA .357 revolver, if I am one doing the shooting, I think immediately of the GP100 with the original, pre-Hogue factory grip. The smaller SP101 is also notably comfortable, but not for nearly as many shots as a GP100.

All of my SA sixguns are chambered in .45 Colt, so for me to recommend an SA in .357 would not be based on actual experience, though I would think .357 recoil from something like a Ruger Blackhawk would be quite mild, especially once one learned to ride with the recoil, rather than fight it.

I do have hands-on experience shooting .44, .41, and .357 Magnums, plus .45 ACP, from S&W DA sixguns. One thing for sure, I very much need aftermarket or customs grips or stocks on S&W revolvers that have much recoil. This is one reason I seem to have accumulated more Rugers that S&W, as I need to budget extra to make the weapon fit me when buying an S&W.

I like the 3 screws just fine. And loading 5 in the wheel is no biggy. But, I also have no problem with the New Models either. I think a Ruger Blackhawk is THE 357! (.) < that's a period. One of the most beautiful handguns in the world, is a Blackhawk with most of the finish worn off. Through good honest use!

New model vaquero with Eagle gunfighter grips. grips were 70$ but really make the gun nicer to shoot.

I believe the 20 gauge is a recent incarnation from current manufacturers. The original howdah pistols were chambered in a variety of calibers. Everything from 577 Snider (or bigger) down to a 455 Webley.

I seached for "howdow" and found it. Ironically it was an old thread on this site. But,, after some research, the actual spelling is howdah.

The original Howdah pistol was a black powder muzzle loader of 20 gauge OR about 55 caliber if rifled and later evolved into break open cartridge guns. You can buy the repos with a 20 gauge smooth bore and a .54 caliber rifled bore. Being black powder, evades the class three thing. That's the one i'd like to have. :D Heck, it'd be a pretty effective close range defense gun with 3 naught buck stuffed down the tube. It IS a front loader, though.

The Howdahs did have the rounded grip like the SAs today and, one thing's for sure, I'd hate to have to shoot a .577 Snider out of a K frame Smith! Of course, it's sorta apples and oranges as the Howdah is a heavy pistol. But, yeah, it illustrates how the grip shape disipates recoil energy by rolling in the hand. Chamber one for .357 and, well, you wouldn't know it'd gone off except for the muzzle blast. :D
