I ride my motorcycle to the gym. I can keep my carry weapons in a locker that I lock with my own padlock, locked under the seat of the bike, or I can keep my weapon in my riding coat on the rack in plain view with a trigger lock in place. Or, some other way I haven't thought of yet.

So, what do you think?

Its ok, just remember a gun under the seat of a motorcycle is just about useless. and when you pull it out from under the seat, people get to see what you have.

I'd put it an a fanny pack, or in the jacket, or at bare minimum store it in a non descript container under the seat, (such as wrapped in a handkerchief or something.)

limit your exposure.

inside pocket of your riding jacket would provide good concealment, and be fairly comfortable

I am a powerlifter...

and I keep my Kel Tec in my workout bag. There are not too many folks that will mess with the group I work out with, unless they are on drugs. In the serious workout gym that I go to, people are very polite. The gym owner has a gun cabinet in his office..........The rat bike is parked outside........chris3

I don't believe I'd wear a fanny pack. I'd have too many visions of it helping break my back or pelvis in a high side crash. Plus, there's my fashion sense.:neener: But, I do ride a BMW, so it's kinda brand relevant.

We have a lot of Law Enforcement Officers (State Police and Federalies) who work out there too, and they lock their sidearms up in the lockers like I currently do.
The gym won't let us leave bags on the floor either, so that's out. But, the coat-rack is there. And, I absolutely do not ride unless I'm ATGATT (all the gear all the time), so I always have my Kilimanjaro textile jacket. So, it's possible I could trigger lock it and leave it in my coat. But then, I have to take the lock off when I leave, secure it when I get there, etc.
It just feels weird to know it's around, but not on my person in a public place. I'm not new to going to the gym, just want to keep the high road offline.

As a disclaimer, I don't have a motorcycle. Don't know jack about them. So read kindly, as the vocabulary is probably all wrong.

Do they make a kind of saddle bag that locks? I see leather bags on the backs of harleys sometimes, one bag off of either side. If you found one you could lock with a key or a combination lock, I think that'd be an ideal place for it, then you could get at it if you were on your bike and needed it.

Sportbike? Something like the ICON primer pak. It's a magnetic tank bag with a carry strap. Pull it off the bike, it's a small bag.... There are others out there similar.

I think I'd leave it home. I would be worried about the locker being broken into. And if I needed a gun to get to the gym, I'd pick a new gym. :scrutiny:

I'm sure you didn't mean to but that sounded like an anti-gunner's statement. People who carry do so becasue of the unexpected that can happen anywhere. I'll agree that the need to use a gun is unlikely to happen at a gym, it's probably unlikely to happen at any destination we choose. But you never know what fate will throw at you on the way to (or back from) your destination.

I may be mistaken here, but I believe he is only asking how to stow the gun while working out. In that case I would lock it in my locker.

Locker or locked in the bike. Like has been mentioned, be as discreet as possible so no one knows where your gun is. If I'm going somewhere were I need to disarm, I carry a custom wallet style holster with a Kel Tec in it. I can remove from my pocket & stow it away in the bike bag so quick you would'nt notice it. When I retrieve it, I can do it right in front of you & you can't tell it's a gun.
Needing a gun in the Gym would be highly unlikely, but he does have to ride to & from the gym. Being totally exposed on a MC makes one a little more vunerable to BG's at a stop sign/light etc. I alway carry on the bike, normally a P-11 middle of the back, I can remove it at a refreshment stop, straight into the helment I just removed & transfer it with the gloves I took off to the saddle bag without drawing any attention.
BTW, if a grown man has a fanny pack & is not obviously gay, most people know he's armed :)

locker is best..

....because it locks. I've never used a Kel-Tec (I have posts here and there asking to borrow one..) but unless the technology has changed since last I paid attention I wouldn't trigger lock a loaded gun.

My gun goes in the gym bag, but my gym allows bags on the floor so long as they're not being tripped over.

and to those that have never been.. the gym is a little like the shooting range. If you look like you know what you're doing, welcome to the club, and everybody else who's serious is gonna be your friend.

I respect the heck out of him for riding his bike to the gym. After a good enough squat day I can hardly drive (automatic) to get home. I don't think I'd have it in me to fight somebody off.

225 benchpress
320 squat
365 deadlift :D

Exactly. This gym is between the hood and the neighborhood where all the wealthiest people live. So, the social strata in and around it is varied. One day I'll be on the treadmill beside a well to do yoga/soccer mom, the next I might be lifting beside a cop, and another day I'll be doing dumbell work beside a guy who is doing his best impression of "fiddy cent".
Even though I don't do the same strength training I used to to where I was totally wiped after a workout (I train for MMA- explosive strength, flexibility, staying lean), I still wouldn't be at my best after training for an hour and a half. So, I carry.
The wrinkle in locking it up in the locker is that they aren't metal. They're made of compressed wood fiber with a metal latch. Anyone with a great deal of upper body strength, or a leverage tool, could pull a lock right off. And, some of the lockers are missing their lock loops for that very reason.
Man, my gym is ghetto. Maybe I need a new gym.:banghead:

Well, Mr. Carpetbagger,

If I could predict when and where I would need a firearm, I just wouldn't go there in the first place.

A small handgun (my "small gun" is a Ruger GP101) in a small waistpack does it for me. I carry this rig when riding my Bandit and would carry it to the gym if I still worked out there (I recently bought a rack and set of weights for the house - nobody complains about me "dropping" the weights when I snatch at the house, although it does scare the cat). People might think you are weird taking a fanny-pack to the shower, though.:D

If I'm pocket carrying, I will leave it in my pocket when entering the gym, and keep it secure in the locker.

If holstered, I will transfer it to a vest pocet, and then hang the vest in the locker gently. Folks generally don't notice the holster on the belt while changing.

I am very careful, however, to never leave the locker unlocked unless I am directly in front of it.

I work out several times a week ... I just toss my wife's KelTec P3AT in my pocket and go.

Even at a good gym the lockers get broken into regularly.

The "you don't need a gun at [insert wholesome location]" argument is foolish ... like people who only wear their seatbelt when driving on the highway.

I'm sure the Luby's Diner in Killeen, TX is a nice place and nobody would need a gun there would they? :scrutiny:

EDIT
My wife just reminded me of a good reason to carry at the gym.

One of my wife's oldest friend's husband worked for NCR in Wichita Kansas, several years ago his boss was at the gym and some schmuck came in all pissed off at his girlfriend or something and shot him (he lived...almost didn't). He had nothing to do with this idiot or his GF, just got caught in the crossfire. So this was a random event at a gym in a nice part of town.

Either in a locker or in your jacket in plain view. I wouldnt keep it on the unattended bike because they simply get stolen too much, and there really isnt an adequatly secure means of keeping on on there.

You can get locking luggage, but the luggage itself is pretty easy to steal off the machine, plus it doesnt help if your whole bike gets shoved into the back of a van.

I was talking to one of the troopers the other day in the locker room. (He was very nice to me :D )
He said I should lock it in my car. I said, while holding my helmet, "I ride a bike."
So, he laughed and and went on to point out how weak the lockers were.

I guess I'll either not carry to the gym, or leave it in my coat all locked up, but man I really don't like the idea of either. Leaving it on the bike, as previous suggestions agree, is a bad idea.

maybe I'll go get one of those lawyer lock guns. that should solve part of the security problems.

with a trigger lock in place.
If you are using one of those trigger guard locks, and install it on a loaded firearm, there is still a psosibility of the firearm going off (if somebody plays with it).
