I fire formed .280Rem brass from federal, and worked up loads in .280AI hornady brass.
The same loads in fed brass was over 100fps faster than Hornady brass, with the additional pressure signs.

I would fireform them. I've seen virgin brass gain quite a bite of power space. Get some cheap speers or pulled 7mms, and a medium to heavy load but not to hit to open the primer pockets.
Ackleys even firing the parent case can be very accurate,

being a 7mm you don't have to worry about buying the barrel up fireforming like a 6.5 or smaller. Tho with that pricey barrel the least shots the better.

this is in the back of my mind and I should probably get passed it. 50-100 mid grade power shots is not going to be the end of the world on my barrel life and likely when this barre is shot out I’ll have got more than my fair share of value out of the barrel and won’t mind rebarreling it.

I've got something like 200 thru mine at this point and it just keeps getting more consistent. I figgured once I settle on a load I'll probably only shoot a few shots a month at most, so I'm fairly unconcerned about how much use it gets now.

Gunsmith just said the rifles finished and will be headed my way. I’m busy at work right now but hopefully will get some time in the next few weeks to wring it out.

First I need to pick up a scope for it. Pretty sure it will be an “outdated” and “left behind” Leupold VX6 HD 3-18x44. I can get a good deal on one locally.

looking forward to how your build turns out.

Same, hope it shoots really good.

Me too, as I’ve sold a few things to help fund it. But I think I’ll be very pleased with it, but at the same time it’s been on my mind for several years it’s got an uphill battle to meet preconceived expectations. Maybe I set myself up for failure.

Not sure, the picture was from my gunsmith. When I receive it, I'll weigh it and report back. I bet I'll be around 8.5lbs with optics. I know the stock isn't weight efficient, but I'm younger so I can deal with that for the time being.

I'm digging it!

weight sounds about right, the two Christensens I've spent time with weigh a little less than a comparable sporter. Mine is right at 8.5lbs carrying an 18oz scope in Talley rings.
