Anyone know of bracket available to mount a light (clamp a flashligt, preferably) to the stock scope mount base on the left side of a Saiga rifle receiver.

The 16" barrel version doesn't really have enough barrel sticking out beyond the forestock to mount a light clamp on the barrel.

Thanks. :)

I dont know of any mounts like that, you'd probably be better served getting a weaver rail blank and screwing it to the forestock to attach the light.

Find a light with a 1-inch-diameter barrel and use scope rings?

Actually, you might have enough barrel to hang a light on the end if you use the right bracket. I've heard of lights on SAR-1's, and the barrel's no longer.

Well, the barrel surface to mount it on isn't what concerns me, but rather the light sticking out beyond the end of the barrel into the muzzle flash. Melted plastic, anyone ....?

Also, by holding a flashlight alongside the forestock with my left hand, I discover that the tall AK front sight is illuminated - I like that. I guess I could resort to a custom mounting bracket (duct tape or rubber bands), but I thought it would work well to mount a light beside the reciever (not on top where it would interfere with the sights, as it would be if I used a scope mount).

I have been looking at this scope base thing on the left side of the receiver, and I have no clue how anything is supposed to attach to it ...

thanks:)

Could you buy an extra gas cylinder/forward handguard thingie (proper term escapes me) and mount a flashlight rail on the upper left side?

Hose clamps? (The metal strap kind that tighten up with screws.) Wouldn't be pretty, but would be stronger than tape.

I sometimes mount a flashlight on an AR carbine with tape and zip ties. The gun in question has an aluminum float-tube forearm and I'm loathe to drill any holes in it. So, when I want a light, I use a couple zip ties and a liberal amount of black tape. I mount it on the side opposite the ejection port and position it so that when holding the gun in a normal fashion my thumb is over the switch. I'm not a ninja, nor a SEEL, nor a SERIOUS user of SERIOUS guns for SERIOUS business, so I can't vouch for it all holding together while being run over by a tank and blasted with a flame thrower, but it has worked okay for me.

Maybe I should just buy an AK/Saiga scope mount, saw it in two, and then weld it back together in the desired configuration ...?

I really thought that there would be a bracket like the one that I envisioned ... maybe I should engineer one and market it myself. :)
