Mouse guns...Love ‘em or hate ‘em?

RS, good put on unoccupied rest stops.

I've added that to the list in the sticky on self defense outside the home in ST&T.

Thanks!

You're welcome. A little more on the story is that at the time as long as you crossed 3 county lines you could carry a gun in your car. At that time (around 1987) I was doing mobile home factory warranty work and all of north and east Texas was in my range. I crossed 3 county lines every day. When I got to the rest stop I was the only vehicle there. I walked up on that guy before I realized he was there. Now I know how a deer feels when he walks up to a hunter on a stand. He was looking down and wouldn't look at me. When I got to the door of the restroom I did a quick look back and he was looking at me.

I did my business using my left hand and the cocked gun was in my right hand pressed against my chest. To fire all I had to do was make a slight left turn and go to work. When I heard foot steps I remember thinking "This is really going to happen". I don't mind telling you I was scared but determined to win. If he had of walked in I would have just opened fire and dealt with the consequences later. I am so thankful I walked away from that. I am also glad I had a gun. Even if it was just a mouse gun. And that guy I walked up on was no where to be seen. He just disappeared.

The FN Model 1900 in 7.65 MM may not really be a "mouse gun", but it was advertised as a "pocket pistol". Teddy Roosevelt had one.

Also, J. Edgar Hoover carried a Colt Police Positive revolver.

I would love to get a hold of a 1900 one day. Even better an 1899, but that's pretty unlikely and then I wouldn't be as sure about it as a shooter.

Can small guns that fire substantial rounds really be classified as mouse guns anymore? I'm thinking the name came from the anemic cartridges they fired, not just the size.

If the gun fires the same cartridge as a bigger gun more recognized for SD, it's not really a mouse gun as far as I'm concerned.

"Don't hate me just because I'm small." lol
