i am on the outside lookin in, but be aware that nashvilles PD recently voted the teamsters in and the FOP out.

TennTucker,

We had a bill that would be even better than the 51% rule. It would simply remove the restriction. It passed the state Senate 29-3. Killed in the house, by our leftist Speaker. (In the House it had over 60 co-sponsors, out of 99 people.)

Sounds like it needs to be resubmitted.

if you're on the east side of nashville, pm me when you get here. i'll introduce you to some ranges

TheFederalistWeasel,

When you get here to Nashville, give me a call. My number is (615)668-5345. I am a TN Carry Permit Instructor at a school in Metro. As a police officer, you will not need a permit.

You will love Nashville. I've lived all over the U.S., and visited most other states. When I got out of the Army, I picked Nashville as a place to live because it's the one place that fits me and my personality the best. There is a lot to do here, and many other things within reasonably close-by. With three major interstates passing through town, it's easy to get to most places in the region.

Welcome to Nashville. Once you're here, we'll have to put together a "Welcome to Town" party / range trip. There are a lot of THR members here in town, including our world-renowned patron, Oleg Volk. We are a pretty close-knit group of people. Heck, I randomly ran into two members at completely different places yesterday. First was Cslinger, who was shooting at the range I teach at. The second member I ran into at Borders bookstore on West End Ave.

Welcome to middle Tennessee! You should like Nashville. If you have to live in a city, there are MUCH worse places to be. I lived there for 5 years, and have now lived about 90 miles south for about 14 years.
Does the department require you live in Davidson County?
If you have any questions about anything, you can always PM me--looks like there are quite a few other Tennesseans on the board that would be happy to help with anything.

And, TennTucker, welcome home soon!

TT,

Without a doubt it will be. And unless Speaker Naifeh is removed from power and replaced with a decent Speaker, it will die again. (Three ways to remove him: Democrats stop supporting him - not likely, he dies - I wish, the Democrats lose their majority, and RINOs don't screw us over and put a liberal Democrat in as Speaker - IMO, our best hope.)

The downside, is that we have a Gov from NY. After this election, he will be a lame duck. (I expect him to win. Don't want a damn yankee Gov, but I know what we will have.) He may be willing to veto, but I don't quite think he will. Bredeson-ofaB**** may be a NY Democrat, but I think he is a smart politician. I think he will avoid vetoing a popular bill to save his own support and make himself look good nationally. Yes, I think he may have National aspirations, and a southern Democrat, who was a gov, and not hated, could win in 08. Either way, I had fun speculating most of that.

Question on "no guns" signage in TN

I have a NC permit which is honored in TN (lucky for me since I live on a border county and spend all my 'recreational' time over there).

Now any place that has ANY sort of "no guns allowed" sign I do my best to avoid as a matter of principle, and safety.

But whereas in NC the law just says that we can't carry in any building that's posted, period, the TN law goes on to state:

Posted notices shall be displayed in prominent locations, including all entrances primarily used by persons entering the building, portion of the building or buildings where weapon possession is prohibited. If the possession of weapons is also prohibited on the premises of any such property as well as within the confines of a building located on such property, the notice shall be posted at all entrances to the premises that are primarily used by persons entering the property. The notice shall be in English but a notice may also be posted in any language used by patrons, customers or persons who frequent the place where weapon possession is prohibited. In addition to the sign, notice may also include the international circle and slash symbolizing the prohibition of the item within the circle. The sign shall be of a size that is plainly visible to the average person entering the building, premises or property and shall contain language substantially similar to the following:

Pursuant to § 39-17-1359 , the owner/operator of this property has banned weapons on this property, or within this building or this portion of this building. Failure to comply with this prohibition is punishable as a criminal act under state law and may subject the violator to a fine of not more than five hundred dollars ($500).

(b) Nothing in this section shall be construed to alter, reduce or eliminate any civil or criminal liability that a property owner or manager may have for injuries arising on their property.

So I was under the impression that unless a sign in TN met the above critera, it "didn't count." As in, you can of course get kicked out of somewhere for carrying, but you can't be charged with carrying a gun in a place that it's not legal to do so. I'd appreciate it if someone could clear this up for me.

(And as another man that never touches alcohol, but LOVES good food, I look forward to the day when I can carry my weapon in good eateries. Like CHEDDAR'S in Johnson City! TennTucker, if you haven't tried it yet, may I highly reccomend it?)

ETA: I pasted that last bit about how being posted does NOT alter a business' liability in the event of a gun-related crime, because I LOVE it! :D Teach those anti-gun morons that just like criminals, you can't keep vengeful tort lawyers away with a puny no-gun sign! :D
