Label your NFA with city and state, I get. Same for suppressors?

Another thing that I'm not clear on is what happens if you move.

NFAs (suppressors) are in a trust.

If you move to another city in the same state, what are you required to do?

As long as they are legal in the new state, what are you required to do if you move to a new state?

You only engrave items you make for the trust (form 1) not items bought for the trust (Form 4). A form 5320.20 is required to move an SRB, SBS, MG, or DD temporarily or perminantly. It is not required for an AOW or silencer but is optional (the ATF should check the laws of the destination). "Moving" the trust itself is a whole other can of worms and can impact the ability to make or buy new items on the trust.

I'd love to hear what others say about the latter part. I suspect in many cases a new trust would be better for new items in the new state.

Depends on the states involved. I recently moved from one state to another, and had a qualified NFA trust attorney in the new state go over my trust and check for any needed changes. None really except to change the state location mentioned in the trust, but no legal changes required. But that entirely depends on the states involved. I was lucky.

Any time you move instate it is "requested" that you notify BATF so they can keep their records current. No prior approval is required. A move out of state requires prior approval of the Form 20 before moving the item except for suppressors and AOW.

Thanks. I just noticed that a lot of this is also covered in the stickies.

I'll be in this situation too. In my trust my address is only mentioned in Schedule A which I can alter whenever I want without using a lawyer or notary. The state is mentioned on the last page called Declaration of Trust which I signed in front of a notary. It would seem to me that I could simply draft a new DoT page with the new state listed and then sign in front of a notary. Maybe Aaron will be along soon.

I moved NFA firearms within the state and notified BATFE by letter afterwards. They acknowledged the address change and thanked me.
