Hey y'all! I figured I'd save some clutter from the reloading room thread and ask this question here as a separate thread. I am looking for more 45 Auto ammo boxes as I need some more and I have a fair bit of the Plano 50rd ones you can get at academy that look like this.

I was looking at options online and saw these from MTM and thought they were neat.

Dad and I can get these at wholesale price so I figure it's a no brainer right?
I just wish they made this style in 45 Colt....
Let me know y'all's thoughts on these and if y'all have any other tips for keeping my stockpile of 45 Auto and 45 Colt ammo and brass organized. Thanks!
Oh yeah, Merry Christmas y'all!

I'm a fan of slip top boxes and I think 45ACP slip-top boxes will work for longer 45 Colt, just the tops/covers won't go ON as far.
The problem most have with slip-tops is that the bottom tends to fall off when you pick them up. 🤔
I figured out if you put the label on the bottom and store them bottom-up ammo cannot fall out when you pick one up!

That and they can propped-open like this, at the range:

I personally don’t like the slip ones. I’ve had them open and spill everywhere! Those slide ones look like they have potential. I personally put shop towels/ rag in a box in the top of the Plano ones(especially with LR rifle ones) to help protect the tips. I say try em. Might be another way to differentiate between cartridges.

The answer to "had them open and spill everywhere!" is in my post. Pics even :D

I’ve never tried those. Look pretty cool though. Get a few and let us know how they work.

I ordered 4 of the slip tops for 9mm like you are considering. DON'T DO IT!!! They suck. The tops don't latch and slide off too easily. I dumped my 9mm into my ammo box and left the slip tops at the range. If you need more boxes get the flip tops by MTM. I've used them for years with no issues. I know you'll like them better than the Plano's you're using.

Wow that's a shame. Drat...

See I started using mini index cards (easily reusable, edit, I should clarify, I mean I can just keep the same paper in the box if I get a load that works well, the ones that don't work out I can easily just throw out, instead of having sticky residue all over the box that seems to never completely come off) as my load data notes so that idea wouldn't really work for my purposes... It's definitely a good idea though!! I also like the prop up-able aspect with the lid out of the way! I always hate the dang lids being in my way for whatever reason. If only someone could make a slide top that had a better latch to help alleviate Dartors issues with that model... sigh...

I had my fill of slippers with old cci 22 boxes. They work great til they don’t and then it becomes a disaster.
Yeah I know what you mean... They still make that style actually if you haven't seen any in a while. I've seen them here and there. I think it's mainly the 22 mag and 17hmr that come in the plastic boxes now and the 100ct 22lr also. They are dumb lol. Surprisingly we have like two bricks of 22 mag Hornady ammo on that style and they have stayed intact for Three years of gunshow transport. Oddly enough we used to have people ask us all the time for nice 22 mag ammo and then they all of a sudden quit asking for it... Idk if it just got too expensive or what...

I need to stock up on 22 mag but I have so many irons in so many fires it’s kinda hard to keep up with what’s going on. My newest toy will hopefully finish a project or two this year… I got a baby lathe. And with full disclosure I know that what I got is essentially a wannabe lathe kit that needs a ton of upgrades, but I’m willing to do that over time. I was constantly finding 22 mag ammo during the 22lr shortage. I only shot it in my single six so I didn’t use much, but now that I’m out I never see it at even close to a reasonable price.

yep, the boxes with the plastic hinge are self-closing and a pain at the range.
I have never seen the type with a hinge pin like in your pic, maybe because there's no Academy stores around here.

I'm not sure how mini-index cards would work, help me out here.
Do you put them inside the box with the ammo?
If so, can you read them thru the box cover?
I could see me with several boxes open at the range and those cards getting mixed up or blown away...

There is software on every computer to compose and print out complete sheets of sticky labels.
You might look into that, even just for printing your index cards.

Yeah I leave them facing the top of the lids of the current boxes I have now as they are semi transparent and I can read them through the lid. And yeah I agree with the concern of them blowing away but I can always just put it part way under the box on a table if wind is an issue. I havent really used them outside that much to be honest with ya...

I like that type, too. I got a few when the project I was working on got axed and a couple of us had to clean up three or four labs, our lab plus two or three others, during the WARN act period between notification and actual separation (it was 20 years ago, it sucked then, but I ended up in a better company). We sorted all the stuff, put it neatly on display, and everyone in the building got a chance to grab whatever they wanted, the rest to go into the trash.
A few of these were among the leftovers (in a bio lab they're used to store microfuge tubes in the freezer) and they got diverted from the trash.
I quite like them. They're a milky clear color, which I prefer over the kind you can't see through.
