Hi all, I bought a brake online that has holes drilled around the entire break, including the bottom. (it was advertised as no holes on the bottom, but then again it was not too expensive). I was thinking of tapping the bottom holes and inserting some set screws, adding or removing them to get the best reduction of muzzle rise. I think there are 5 holes running from front to back, so I should be able to tune it to my preferred load.

Anyway, before I start the tapping, anyone think this is a bad idea, or something unsafe I did not think about? I think there is a commercial mfr of breaks that does the set screw thing. The break is aluminum, holes look to be the right side for 10 - 32 threads. 30 caliber.

If it isn't what was advertised, send it back. That would be a lot less trouble.

By the way, it is a muzzle brake, not "break".

Thanks for the correction Jim, spelling was never my strong point. It was a cheap part, bought mostly to hold me over until I can get a better one. I thought of sending it back but it honestly is not worth the trouble. True modifying it would be more work than sending it back but maybe in the end it will be a positive learning experience.

Your solution sounds good. Just make sure the screws are Locktited and don't protrude into the bore. I am curious about how successful an aluminum brake will be in the long run. I can see erosion on steel brakes after hard use.
