I've been thinking that I want one. I like the idea. Yesterday I handled the 5.56 Patrol model at Academy. Nice sights. Shouldered great. F&F not so good. The wobbly bolt does not bother me. The spring loaded bolt tab seams a little flimsy.
Curious if there are any issues with it?

For me, the iron sights are worth a hunscky but at 560 plus OTD I'm still not completely sold. A few dollars more (~150) and you're into CZ 527 range with ugly wood but the closest CZ dealer is not even in state.

What are your thoughts? Do you like the MVP? What of the bolt tab thingy?

My friend bought one a couple months back. I worked up a load for it and it shot plenty well. An upper mid level charge of W748 and 55 spitzers got consistent 3/4 moa groups prone from a bipod and rear bag. It could probably do better with more tuning, but he was happy with where it was and didnt want to burn any more powder.

Rifle shoots great and handles very well. I think it would be an excellent rifle to carry around. The only thing that annoyed me was the looseish bolt, but all that I have seen did that. It did not affect function in any way.

The fact that it uses cheap ar mags is great. You can stick in anything from a nice trim 5 rounder up through a 60 round surefire lol.... You know for those dangerous prairie dogs.

FWIW he got his used, but in nice shape for just over 400 out the door. It was the patrol version, with the 16 inch barrel. Definitely my favorite MVP rifle.

Surely you can do better than 560 if you are patient.

Not the prettiest rifles, but they shoot well. The stocks are solid, and the trigger is as good as any of the other accu-trigger clones. If you look closely at the tab on the bolt, when there is pressure on it (feeding a cartridge), the tab is solidly against the bolt face. It is just floppy when it flips up to ride over the loaded rounds in the mag. They have sold a ton of them, and I don't think I have ever heard of an actual breakage of the tab.

I think they are interesting but I would never consider one a "patrol" rifle.

If my department issued me a bolt-action .223 rifle as my main ranged armament, I would not be pleased. It's 2014, not 1914. And .223 is not ideal for police sharpshooter use, I don't know of any departments who use it in that role, .308 rules in that arena too.

If you can get past semantics, than yeah, they are a nifty rifle for what they really are!

They make it in 308 now. I believe that it uses AR10 mags.

I like the idea of it. Cheap, abundant ammo, longer range that .22, available open sights from the factory, and uses ar15 mags. I havent actually handled one, but Im interested. Not the next gun on my list, but I'll be keeping my eye out for them.
