I have heard the statement made that thos who buy handguns (especially those that carry them concealed) really have "an itch" that they "get to scratch" one day when they have a chance to use their firearm.
My answer to that was that gun ownership was not unlike learning CPR or First Aid: You may take great pride in your proficiency, and you may seek to continually improve your skill to be increasingly better prepared should the need arise, but that in NO WAY implies that you are secretly hoping that you'll have a chance to actually use that skill.

When some dumb lady said "I think people who carry guns are just looking for trouble" I said "So people who have a fire extingusher in their houses are just looking for a fire?"

Reminds me of a dumb lady I met once. I was working in armored transport, was in full uniform, and carrying a large sum of money across the parking lot, when she made a comment about "you guards shouldn't be carrying guns, the money isn't as important as someone's life!"

"You are so right, ma'am, and that's why I carry it... this money isn't worth MY life."

You gotta wonder if they bounced when their mothers dropped them on their heads. :banghead:
