Basicly they took everything that went wrong at Va tech and said that is what we should do if a shooter comes on campus.

This is the advice from the campus police.

1) Barracade youself in the class room. (Yeah right. All the doors open OUT.)

2) Call 911 on your cell phone. (911 in SF Bay area on your cell phone is worthless as all calls are routed to the CHP and they are too understaffed to answer calls in anything less than 6-15 min... IF your call goes through. SOmetimes they are SO busy you don't even get a busy signal and the phone does not ring!!)

3) Don't run outside or you might be shot or detained by the police should they not have a description of the shooter.

Christ...

Let's just tell people to do the same thing and not learn anything from the past...:banghead:

wow. http://www.thehighroad.org/images/smilies/banghead.gif

From another post, quoting an older guy caught carrying...

"Officer I'd rather get caught carrying it by you than get caught by the bad guys without it."

or something like that...:banghead:

They tried to tell us the same thing. Instead, we have a lot of people packing. I don't have a pistol.

Jim:

#3 actually makes sense if you re-word it somewhat.

That really is a risk....

(Well not the "detained" part.... The "shot" part.... :) )

They also left out #4: "Learn a 'prayer for the dead'."

Regards,

I'd much rather see my son or daughter (or wife, as she is in college) carry illegally than be a victim.

My school has started coming up with "reasons" to search students cars. They blocked THR and calguns.net for about a week after but I'm back on...
I did a thorough cleaning of my car last weekend to make sure there was no loose round or casing in the trunk. I am curious the legality of searching cars in california-I've always been told probable cause, but me being a registered handgun owner may count as "probable cause" in their eyes. Or that I've posted on here from campus. yes-I'm paranoid...

I dont think you guys can access my school paper so I wont post the link, but here's the "re-evaluation" of my University's plan.

A text-messaging system tied into the campus e-mail system to be used in emergencies. They reiterated the fact that the dorms are always locked, but c'mon, people let fellow students in all the time.

Regarding a meeting to review safety with Resident Assistants they said "It's important that the FEEL safe.":banghead: Oh boy, how wonderful.

They said everyone is required to have a landline phone and voicemail in dorms and urged people to report suspicious persons to public safety. This is nothing new and has been the policy for a while.

Thats about all that was said in regards to safety, so basically the response of the administration is "We're going to do nothing." Heck, they didn't even mention the possibility of maybe allowing campus police to carry thier firearms. They're required to regularly qualify shooting w/ the State Police, but can't carry under UD policy.

If that is all the smarter the guys in charge of your college are, what makes you think they can teach you anything. Get outta there quick!!!! Stupid might be contagious!

My school's having an "open discussion" tomorrow. I might pipe up if they get too stupid (from the results of the student body elections, and the craptastic things they've had to say about assaults on campus, I'm guessing there's going to be plenty of retardation to go around).

LibertyLover,

I would suggest printing out the section of your University code that prohibits weapons, and reading it aloud. Then say "VT had essentially the same policy. How does a mere policy stop people like Cho? If someone like Cho is willing to break the highest human natural law against murder, why would that person be concerned with University Code Section 10 subsection 23 part A? This University Code prohibiting weapons ownership is just a way for the University to cover its own ass."

Jim, you've got an opportunity here...

Take an official paper copy of the universty's new policy, and tear off the bottom, whatever... Now, on the bottom of another sheet, type up the following:

Students at Virginia Tech were not allowed to defend themselves.

1) Students at Virginia Tech barracaded themselves in the class room.

2) Students at Virginia Tech called 911 on their cell phone. And police were already on campus!

3) Students at Virginia Tech didn't run outside.

4) Students at Virginia Tech died.

Doesn't anyone have a BETTER idea?

Copy the two pieces of paper onto a single sheet (contrast is good...), and then make a few dozen copies, and stick 'em on convenient bulletin boards.

#3 was the most ridiculous thing there. If you see a possible escape route and you're not armed, USE IT. The cops have NO RIGHT to shoot you if you're not a threat to anyone.

Careful with that. At least in California, illegally carrying weapons on campus is a felony. If he or she wasn't a victim before, leave it to the prison system to take care of that...

Yes, carrying on campus in the PRK is a bad idea, it is a "slam dunk" felony. However---long stretch loophole where I attend (California State Polyitechnic University, Pomona) is that one may carry a firearm/projectile launching device onto campus with permission of the college president. The long stretch part is that I bet he doesn't give out permission to students and probably not to teachers.

Simple solution. TN and UT allow CCW at colleges. Swamp them with applications. Tell CA to go screw.

Free market solution.

"We have room for 30K students, and 200K applications...how fast can we build more facilities?"

adding to this:
4) Don't cower in the corner of the classroom and hope that the gunman will leave you alone. Be proactive, if escape from the room isn't possible crouch at the door and tackle the guy as he comes into your room. Hopefully with assistance from other students who don't want to be victims either.

Can someone please explain to me why Security Guards aren't allowed to carry. I'm sorry but an unarmed Security Guard is usless for everything except harassing the sutdents for stupid things like sitting in the wrong place or walking on the grass. Why pay for unarmed security? That's no security at all...

Archangel:

It may be the State's fault, or it may be up to the school, but it's the same sort of blissninny criminal and terrorist friendly thinking that got 32 people killed at VT....

The idea that a few rules, laws, or signs, will do anything is absurd. But Joe Sixpack seems to want to believe what his "betters" tell him....
