Here's an address to the story, http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/crime/story/9499046p-9410028c.html

This took place on Dec. 3rd. Tamas Deak is my cousin and he was shot in his driveway while entering his vehicle to go to work. The suspect was caught as indicated in the article.
The bullet in his chest just missed his spine, this is the one the doc's were most concerned with. Two went through an arm and a leg, and the last two hit him in the side and buttocks.
Apparently he is doing ok. A friend of his spent last friday with him and is amazed that Tamas was eating, drinking and doing most of the talking during his visit. The wounds show no sign of infection and he may have been released already.

Seems like there is a lot of shootings taking place over the last week. I can't get over the randomness of Tamas' shooting, the guy was just going to work like he usually does. Who expects to be attacked by some miscreant on a murder spree? This stuff sucks when it happens to someone close.
I have it on good word that he is looking sharp in his teal gown:D.

The judge ORDERED a public defender?

You have the right to one but should never have one forced on you.

Here's a perfect example for all those "what caliber" questions and "this caliber vs that caliber" polls. There is no wonder bullet. It's all about shot placement.

Hope your cousin gets better and gets to see this guy convicted in court.

The judge probably wanted nothing to stand in the way of this guy and jail, like a successful appeal that he didn't have counsel.

I have it on good authority that God has set aside a special corner in Hell for this character.

Glad your cousin is doing well.

5 shots. Wowww.:cuss:

How hard guys we Hungarian are:)):neener:

I hope your cousin gets better soon!

The judge ORDERED a public defender?

that is just a phrase used to say that the person did not have a lawyer and he was assigned one. in this case, ordered would be a synonym for assigned.

too bad this guy didnt get shot dead by the police.

i pray your cousin recovers quickly and completely.

A bullet behind his ear seems like a good sentence. :)

I hope your cousin has a speedy recovery.

This is a perfect example of why situational awareness is so important no matter what time of day or where you are.
It can happen to anyone, at any time, at any place.

so Rogers gets three hots and a warm cot, and cable t.v. without ever working another day in his life.

that's "justice" in the good 'ol U.S. of A.

and may he arrive there sooner, rather than later...

there should be an express trial procedure with mandatory capital punishment for his like.

Was he shot with .357 Magnum rounds, or .38 Specials?

Either way, 5 shots of ANYTHING is crazy stuff. I'm glad he's gonna fine. Tell him to buy a few lottery tickets!

Glad to hear he's doing ok.

I don't get why bail was even offered. This guy's obviously a psycho that doesn't care about anything.

I never understood why there was capital punishment for murder but not attempted murder.

It's not my fault you suck at it and couldn't get it right. You tried, though, and that's the point.

This happened in alaska? Geez, if they had an AWB like CA this would never have happened.

/sarcasm

In reality, i'm glad your cousin is doing well, and hopefully the attempted murderer will get worse whereever he ends up

In serious cases, where the defendant is looking at long time and appears to be a bit unhinged, judges will assign defense counsel even if the defendant says he will defend himself. The defendant is told that counsel is there to advise him.

It also means there is a defense counsel in place in case the defendant gives up on his defense. This prevents having to start all over again in the proceedings.

I saw this happen when a local 'meth' head was arrested for burglarizing my motor home and trying to steal my car. The idiot said he would defend himself, but fell on his face when the trial started in Superior Court. His appointed counsel stepped up and finished the trial.

Very lucky person and the perp should receive the sentence he has coming to him. Death did not happen, so death is not a sentence to be considered.

Put away from society is what is needed. Retiring is another way to look at it.
