I need some help. I want to suprise my dad for christmas with a cool little autoloader. He recently got a Taurus 24/7 in a 9mm. I am thinking the millenium pro pt145 .45a.c.p. would be a great concealed piece. I also thought about the new Kel-tec pf-9. Any ideas or are these some good choices.

I voted for the PF9 solely because 9mm is plenty for SD and he only has to buy 9mm instead of 2 different calibers.
If your budget is limited then those 2 choices should be fine. But if you have more money I'g g owith a Glock 26 or Walther P99c.

Get the Taurus,as an owner of both,I found the PF-9 needed a lot of work to make it fuction properly, and even after all the time I spent "engineering",I still prefer my PT145.Besides,the mags should be interchangable between that and the 24/7...Although the bottom line is,it depends on the intended use...

I've read a few bad reviews on the PF-9 so I would be a little worried about buying one for your Dad. Since he already has a 24/7 in 9mm why not buy him a PT-111 Pro? It's the same pistol as the 24/7 except it's smaller and more concealable. I'm only suggesting this because it's the same caliber as the pistol he already owns. I know a few people who carry both a PT-111 Pro and a 24/7 in 9mm. The PT-111 Pro makes a great backup to the 24/7.

If the different calibers aren't a problem then I highly suggest the PT-145, especially over the Kel-Tec. (NO, I'm not a Kel-Tec basher, I own an P-32)

I'd guess he bought what he wanted so why get a replacement? Unless he's unhappy with the pistol he picked out I'd look for things to increase the use of his pistol. Maybe a couple of new mags, holster(s), mag pouch(s), ammo, range membership, class time, lock box, etc would be the way to go. A second pistol might just end up in the box on a shelf under a blanket.

Well he carries the Taurus 9mm with him as a ccw. However it is too big and he is moving all day. He wanted to get a smaller gun and he said he wanted a .45.

Kahr 9mm's are about the same general price ($500 for the Kahr vs. $400) as the Taurus and IMO they're a better gun and are very good for concealed carry due to the fact that they have a single stack mag. Most of the people that I know are very happy with them. With Taurus either people seem to love them or hate them. I'm one of the few that I know that are in the middle on them, but I do think that the Kahr is a better gun all around, especially for someone who has to carry it around all day. It doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference if the gun is slightly slimmer, but it does.

Really tough choices since I'm not really a fan of either. The tauri I've owned have not lived up to expectations while the Kel Tecs I've owned have just seemed flimsy. I guess I'd probably go w/ the taurus since I only have a couple choices

Per the poll, Taurus. I've been real pleased with my PT145 and appreciate the 10+1 capacity. If you want a single stack, go with the PT745.

If you want to stick to the 9mm cartridge, PT111 (9mm). The titanium models are darn light.

As for the Kahr, my neighbor has a PM40 and that trigger is pretty light compared to my Taurus and it's 12lbs or so.

On a torture test of the Kahr, it started having issues at about 75 rounds with UMC ball ammo. The dirty powder was the cause. As for my PT145, never had any issues with 200+ round count range visits. Okay, I limp wristed it once last week and got my first stovepipe, still, both are good choices.

No experience with a KT of any sort, so can't comment directly, so I won't.

I'm going to have to go with NEITHER of them and suggest saving a little more money for a quality compact CCW handgun.

I would go with the Kel-tec PF9 to keep the same ammo. PT111 (9mm) Taurus would also be a good option.

I think the PT145 is exactly what HE wants.
