After a year of trying to persuade her to try my lever action, she finally gave it a shot this morning. She's only shot .22's up until now, but she discovered she REALLY liked shooting .38 special as well. The gun's still a tad large and heavy for her, but she was ringing the 5" gongs at 15 yards just about every shot, I'm proud of her! She put almost 100 rounds through it before her fingers got cold.

That smile says it all!

And Scooter22 is right: she owns that Marlin from here on out! Better start looking for another one for yourself!

Good for you....good for her. Big part of the shooting sports is passing it on. She looks tickled pink with herself. Keep her safe tho and back off from the steel gongs a tad. 15 yards is pretty close for shooting steel with a centerfire rifle. I'm guessing she was wearing ear plugs along with those safety glasses?

Might want to consider a set of Youth stocks for her..........

Good job dad. Way to pass on the sport. My boy is only 7 but last year he got a Red Ryder for Christmas. This year I upgraded him to a Co2 powered bb gun for Christmas cause hes so flippin lazy he thinks cocking the Red Ryder is "a hassle".

Life isn't going to get easier. Instead of getting a Co2 gun you have to constantly buy powerlets for should have gotten a break barrel springer. The RR would have suddenly gotten easier.;)

Good point. I don't mind paying for the cartridges though. Anything to keep him interested in the sport. Next year it will be .22 lr's anyway.

Oh, you are gonna need a shot gun posted at the front door in about 10 years.

She's a cutie and it's wonderful that she is learning the fun of firearms and shooting.

Good job Dad!

Kind of reminds me of my son though when it came to guns and shooting, being lazy was never a problem. Have to say he preferred semi-autos to everything else but never complained about having to load his own magazines!

Now when it came to doing things around the house or his school work; that was an entirely different matter!

As far as her now owning that rifle, I suspect most Fathers of Daughters would gladly give up a rifle to keep their daughters shooting with them.

That's most assuredly a Father-Daughter truism! Also the reason I always let my kids pick out their guns so it was something they liked and had a hand in selecting it.

Is that Marlin a 30-30? It looks like one that I have, mine is a Texan model, they only made them for a few years. Glad to see you are starting her off early, and yes judging by the look on her face you kissed that Marlin goodbye. My children have laid claim to some of my firearms but they are going to have to wait until I am to old to shoot them before they get them.
