I thought I'd share with all gun lovers my Self-Deafness (Self-defense) gun. My S&W 500 Magnum. Probably 500 magnum is never going to be a self-defense gun at home, unless you are willing to go deaf, but take a look at the display pad that is underneath this gun. Coolest product I've ever added to my collection. It can really defend you at home or office. It looks fancy and same time it's a bulletproof shield. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wr2tsGXiT8 500magnum.jpg

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome. Of all the guns that I have this is the most fun gun to shoot. The problem is it's so loud that people get scared at the indoor range. It is louder than most rifles and usually, I always end up at the handgun range and people don't expect to hear explosion sound.

I move down the firing line when somebody whips out a Socom16. If a bunch of AR pistols emerge, Ill usually leave. 🙄
I always request to put me in a rifle range. I tell them that this gun is very loud and scares people, especially if you don't have double ear protection. But 90% of the time they put me in the handgun range. Once man next to my booth almost fainted...

At least you can't be criticized for having an under powered defensive piece. If you ever chose to use it as such. If they were re-making the Dirty Harry movie series nowadays, I wonder if Inspector Callahan would be packing an S&W 500 Magnum? But seriously; that's a beautiful piece and welcome to THR.

I made my X-frame a little less deafening.

When I first got my 500 magnum I was looking for this part but no one had it for sale. Yes it will definitely reduce the crazy boom. Then I tried removing compensator and boy I was surprised how violent gun became. Secret to making this gun more manageable is to load rounds very hot and use 350gr bullets. One would think that light loads would be better but just the opposite. Hot loads are manageable, especially when you shoot 50 rounds. Obviously you can make very light loads and make this gun shoot like .45acp but then there is no point shooting this gun.

I'm pretty sure my Gunsite Ruger 308 16 with LanTac Dragon comp. Is responsible for most of my "HUH?" lol oh well.
After several visits/hearing evaluations with a couple of different audiologists, the VA finally decided just the week before last that my "HUH?" started over 50 years ago - a long time before I got my 14" Remington XP-100 7mm IHMSA (a necked down 300 Savage), and they're going to buy me a set of hearing aids. Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure (although I have no proof) that my 14" 7mm IHMSA (or the 7.5" 30 Carbine Ruger revolver I used to have) would be my "Self-Deafness" gun if I had not have always used good (usually double) hearing protection when shooting it.
As far as a "favorite self-defense gun" goes though, I'd rather be holding the little Smith 22-32 "Kit Gun" that resides in a kitchen cabinet than my XP-100 - a one-hand held, bolt action single-shot rifle that I used to use for tipping over 200-meter steel rams.
BTW, I'd rather have my hearing back than the best hearing aids the VA can buy me.

Laughs in 10.5 5.56 with SilencerCo ASR muzzle brake. Needless to say it will only be shot suppressed from now on lol. JK I would argue my dad's 300 Win Mag with a massive tanker style brake would probably get us kicked out of the local indoor range.

That's why I call this gun Self-Deafness protection gun. I would imagine that if someone used it as a self defense gun, even if you miss the intruder he would think he got shot and definitely fall. Sound of this gun is same if not higher than concussion grenade.

Yes, I have hearing aids in each ear these days... and between Vietnam, a career in police work, then nearly 30 years running a small backcountry skiff and sitting right in front of the motor.... I have no idea what hurt my hearing the most...

One thing is certain though - with that hand cannon - if you miss your first shot - your opponent can be found -by following the brown trail he (or she) leaves behind as they depart in haste...
