I just ventured into the AR arena today with the purchase of a stripped lower at the Ventura Gun Show. I got a Stag 15, 5.56mm.

I already have a decent hunting rifle in .30-'06, and an extremely accurate long range rifle in .308.

I want this to be a 16", (or 14.5" plus supressor) length barrel. Help me out with my choices......what should i get as an upper? stock? trigger? sights? etc.

Any info you can give me will be helpful. This is my first AR.

Well I am a standard kinda guy. I see nothing wrong with a standard A2 stock, single stage trigger, sights, etc. It seems most will disagree but I, or my son, can use this for match shooting.

I just picked up a Rock River Arms lower parts kit for $63 shipped, that would be a good place to start.

Check out some of the links in my sig, too.

Get a "bullet button" and 10 round magazine from coldwarshooters.com or tenpercentfirearms.com

All other parts can be purchased from internet suppliers.

I recommend a flat top upper because it is much easier to add optics like an EOtech 512. If accuracy is your intent, get a free float handguard and Rock River 2 stage trigger. Midwest Industries makes great fold down backup sights.

I'd second the flattop and flip up sights, wish I had the low profile picatinny gas block too

Id get a standard A2 stock, then get a 16" target upper, and then a red dot with a set of flip up irons as a back up. if you were to opt for the eotech, they make a 3x magnifier that pops off lickity split. just my $.02
