I have the oppourtunity to purchase my first AR. My question is, which one? The first is a combo built with a Spikes lower and a Del-Ton upper. Price is $800. Second is a Bushmaster XM15E2S HBAR. Both have 16" barrels and both have les yhan 100 rounds. The bushmaster is $300 more but is only a 15min drive compared to a four hour drive(each way). Any imput would be great!

I'd go with the Del-ton because that is what I have. They're comparable, but the HBAR Bushie may feel somewhat out of balance in a mid length.

both of those are ridiculously high
i wouldn't touch the del-ton with a 10 meter cattle prod because you don't know who put the upper together. it's a recipe for irritation, particularly on a first AR

HBARs suck. getting a USED bushmaster for under $800 should be pretty easy.

You can get a NEW colt for about $1100.

both of those are too expensive.

And we need to know exactly what the purpose and expectations are before we can recommend (a Colt) something else. (or a BCM)

Good rifles you should be able to order or buy from any decent gun store:
Stag: 800-1000 brand new, and better than both guns you mentioned
BCM $600-800 upper can be attached to a $330 LMT lower.
Colt 6920: $1200-1350, the benchmark of combat ready Ar's

I have a Stag lower with a Del-Ton 16" midlength upper. Purchased them new and have $670 in them with taxes and shipping. I wouldnt pay $800 for something used that you could get cheaper brand new.

I will echo everyone above, that they are both high priced. Still high, even if they were new.
As recently as last month, you could slap a brand new complete Daniel Defense XV upper on a new complete Stag lower for just less than $800. That gives you a pretty top-notch AR right there. Unfortunately, the Daniel Defense special price is over.

And, a new complete DD XV M4 rifle can be had for $1000 (from A.I.M. Surplus). Why would you want to pay $1100 for a used (or even new) Bushmaster?
