Hi, fellas. This is a followup to a recent post I made about my new home-built AR. To recap, it's a Del-Ton 16" midlength complete upper with CMMG stripped lower, Palmetto LPK, and UTG milspec stock. Rear sight is Magpul MBUS.
After I completed the build, I disassembled the bolt carrier group, degreased with Break-Free Powder Blast, and regreased with a heavy coat of Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w30. I also put a patch saturated with break-free through the bore, following with a couple of dry patches. The bore was left mirror shiny.
I headed to the range this morning in 40ish degree temperatures. I brought the AR, a PMAG, 100 rounds of Federal 55gr .223 FMJ, and my spotting scope.
My first rounds hit about 4 inches low at 25 yards, with windage about dead on. After moving the front sight up 8 clicks (using a front sight adjustment kit consisting of a .223 cartridge and a pen), I was grouping everything about where I wanted it.
After about 22 rds I moved the target out to 100 yards. At this point, I mostly practiced standing with rifle at low ready, and firing as soon as I could raise the rifle and get a sight picture. Did OK at this, mostly getting minute-of-chest groups. I also shot from the bench a bit, with my best string a bit over an inch.
Through this, all rounds fed and ejected well. Hopefully this trend continues. I really like the Mobil 1 as a lubricant. I expected some dryness on the BCG after 100 shots (some fired pretty rapidly), but when I inspected it, it was still wet as when it started. The Mobil 1 seems to stick pretty well, and really makes the action slick.
My first target with this rifle, 25yd.
Second target, 25yd.
Offhand group, 100yd.
Center group is from the rest, the other shots are off hand, quickly aiming. 100yd
