I will be competing in the shootsig competition tomorrow and it will be my first time in this kind of shooting environment. I have watched the stages on the shootsig website and it doesn't seem too daunting. I understand that this is a good way to start, in that it is not really geared toward the most competitive shooters. I am a bit nervous, but still looking forward to it. I have tried to mentally prepare myself and practice with what i have - using my imagination because my setup is not like theirs. I will be doing this on an sig p365 with optic - which is its own category. Wondering if anyone else has done this and how it went for you.

I haven't participated in Sig matches. Have shot USPSA, IDPA, Glock matches, and Cowboy Action. In almost every case, new shooters are welcomed and encouraged as long as you don't come off as a know-it-all (don't get that from your post) and are willing to ask for advice and assistance. Good luck with your match. Fun way to gain some handgun skills.

I shot USPSA matches for about 6 years around 20 years ago. I remember that my goal for my first match was to not be dead last. I realized that goal as there were about 4-5 shooters behind me. A couple were DQ'd. I was shooting an EAA Witness 9mm that was because it was ported put me in open class with iron sights. I didn't care, I had no illusions about winning the match. It was a gun that I already owned and had enough magazines for, not to mention that was very accurate and reliable. A cheap Uncle Mikes holster and I was good to go. I eventually worked my way up to B class. Now you're running with with the pack. A few points or a 1/2 second, and you're up or down 10 spots on the score sheet.

Overall it was a good experience. I'll post results once the whole thing is over. But I know I am not last :) At the time I left I was 1st place among the p365 with red dot class. 18th overall. So, whatever the end results are, I think I'm happy for my first experience.

As far as the competition itself, I think it's a good program. Definitely depends on the competency of the local volunteers at whatever club it takes place. But the Sig people trained them well because it ran very smooth. 3 stages and a volunteer walks with each group of people to each stage explaining things and making sure we know what to do. Then the people running the stages were friendly and patient. Made sure you understood what to do. In some cases they even advised people who were having trouble shooting well. The club had food and a raffle set up. Sig had a demo area set up and that was very nice. Got to try a 226X5, 320 of some sort, 322, and a 9mm. PPC. Plus they provided the ammo for free - although you only got to shoot 5 rounds for each gun. They had several more which I didn't try. You were welcome to use any of their guns to compete with as long as you bought their ammo. So, if the club does it again next year, I'll probably do it again.

GSSF Indoor is much simplified, one target shot at at ranges from 3 to 25 yards on par time in different divisions, run by the local range without GSSF employees overseeing operations. But you can still win a gun. And it gets you out of the house.

Easy for SIG to do if they saw the opportunity.

In the p365 with optic division, I got 4th place out of 14. My time for the 3 stages was 40.89 seconds. First place got it in about 22 seconds. So, more work to do. A good experience overall. Will probably do it again in the future.

I remember my first (and only, so far) 3-gun match. My goals, in specific order, were: (a) Don't shoot myself; (b) don't shoot anyone else; (c) don't get DQ'd for a safety violation. I think I finished something like 17th out of 25, but I met all of my goals!

Glad you had a good experience.
