My First rifle high power match (45 long colt) a marvelous experience
First of all, I must admit my intention was have fun not compete. Secondly, I found a large variety of rifles, people, couple of kids and a nice ex-vet of vietnam who gently help me with rules and lend me his bench rest. Mostly the shooters did with .223-.308-30.06 and others high power calibers, therefore my winchester 94-45 long colt (iron sights) sound like an air gun comparing to them. When I began to drill at 100 yards my first shot was out of the target, but at third I did an eigth suddenly my first x appears (5 in total) in scene motivate me highly. Obviously, I knew my limitation in regards of cal. sights and experiences. However, shooting @ range was always something fun and it was again. The second string was my high score when timing arrive to my sights. Finally, the third string probably was a lower score may be I was just overwelmed by incredibles shooters and the ex-vet who was the highest score with his AR-15 Colt with special match upper (599-43). Even though, my final score was very low 327-5 I enjoyed very much the marvelous experiences of shoot high power match where focus and skills must be merge to get the best of you. In short, a marvelous experience to recommend to a everyone.

P.s. I promessed return and improve.

I think that's great. We too often think we can't do something unless we buy the rig (car, boat, firearm, whatever) that was designed to win at the task. Getting your feet wet and seeing if you get along with the guys first makes much more sense to me.

Bench rest match sounds like fun and it seems that you had a good time and I hope you continue to go .
Good shooting and please keep going

highpower and bench rest are different. in HP you shoot from positions, standing, sitting, and prone. Oh and no scopes are allowed.

That sounds cool. I am going to shoot my first hi-power match this summer. I will be shooting my AR-15 but it is a 16"bbl carbine so I doubt I will be competitive. I saw some of the hi-power ARs that some guys have and they look like space guns.

albanian,

That is the term used for those fancy ARs, space guns! For some reason, a few of the regulars at my local range refer to ALL AR-15s as space guns, including the standard Service Rifles. A Service Rifle looks like an M16 on the outside. Looks can be so deceiving! :)

Go to it and good luck. Careful, it can be addicting! :D

Maybe I was wrong but with 60 shots I do not remember any nra highpower or cmp matches with 60 shots unless it was a seperate thing specialy set up by that club, did see that before will they only ran the off hand, rapid sitting and rapid prone with no slow prone so its a possiblity.

But he also said he was loaned the bench rest to use so between the# of rounds and the bench rest device I just figures that it was a bench rest match.

By the way I really do not care what it was as long as he had fun and keeps going back

I got 70 rounds

Dear forum
I got 70 rounds, 1 box winchester 50 and 1 box Hornady 20 rounds. I had shot all round sat.
