my friends laugh, I just can't shoot this gun...

Maybe he enjoys not shooting it.

I've got several guns that I have either never fired, or maybe fired a half dozen to a dozen rounds through. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy them. I enjoy the hunt to find them. I just enjoy finding something I've wanted for a long time. Not long ago I traded for a very nice Smith & Wesson Model 29-2, 4" barrel. I've taken it to the range once. I might have fired fifty rounds that day, most of them 44 special. I might never fired it again. Or I might. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy having it.

Another one. A 64 (no dash) 38 special that I believe has never been fired. I probably will never shoot it either. Why shoot it? I know how a Smith & Wesson Model 10 (which is all a 64 is) shoots. I don't "need" to shoot the 64.

But I'm glad I have it.

Will I make an money on it if I decide to sell it? I don't know. I might. Might not. It doesn't really matter to me. But you can bet I wouldn't sell it right now for less than I paid for it.

Now who would have thunk....
Again, nobody said that wasn't a worthy endeavor but it is not a sentiment expressed by the OP. Whose only stated concern was that of collector value.

Excellent!

Of course only Old Unc' can say for sure, but to me it sure sounds like he really doesn't want to shoot it, and is rationalizing his decision by saying that shooting it will reduce its collectors value. Maybe this is the nicest/most expensive/most pristine gun he's ever bought and just wants to keep it that way by not using it.

I also know people who would buy two of the same thing just so they could have one in mint condition for their collection, and another one for every day use.

To each their own.

That's my take too, but this thread is going to keep going around and 'round until (or if) Old Unc' comes back and makes his position clearer. Meanwhile the Old Fuff is just going to wait and see. Further speculation really isn't going to go anywhere.

Old Unc was around on another thread earlier today

Maybe we scared him

:what:

That is understandable...we can be...how you say here in America?....

passionate.

IMO it is silly to buy a gun and not shoot it. Every NIB gun I have purchased has been shot. Life is too short to spend good money for stuff and not use it for its intended purpose.

Just my .02,

Maybe we skeert him off???

I'm now the happy new owner of a brand new USFA/Turnbull SAA with pre-war finishes and engraved cylinder. It was unturned this morning but no more. I'll bust the cherry on it later this week. Puttin' my money where my mouth is!

Barrel cylinder gap probably has a bit of play.. not that there's anything wrong with that.
Throat erosion could be an issue though.

I would hardly think of Pamela Anderson as "Unfired in Box."
I look at her and just think about all the diseases you could catch. Give me a woman with virtue any day of the week.

I guess you would not want to be a member of a club that would have you as a member? :neener:

HMMM
perhaps my penchant for older, more used guns, the exact opposite of the OP, says more about me than just my taste in guns.

I think Saxon's Trooper is a thing of beauty
