The CZ P-01 is a great handgun. It fits my hand better than any other double stack handgun out there, and it has been 100% flawless even when shooting really dirty. Look at the reliability shown by the P-01 in Czech trials. It exceeds a lot of handguns out there when talking about reliability, and especially feel at least for me.

Turbo put it best--the P01 disappears into your hand.
Having shot both of dad's P01 and P229, the P01 definitely felt better. I can't say which one shot better, but the grip on the P229 just felt too wide. In contrast, the P01 had the right curves in the right places...disappearing into my hand.

I love my CZ's. P01 is my EDC. My wife has one too, and she has no problem racking the slide. She carries it in the winter fine, summer time she will carry the RAMI.
All the parts are easy to find online. With the money I saved (I did buy mine some time ago, they were even more "undiscovered then") getting the CZ's over the sigs, I got holsters and spare parts, so I'm all stocked up.
Mec-Gar does a good job with the mags, they show up fast and function great.
High Noon and CompTac both make great holsters specifically for the CZ's depending on which style you prefer.
I certainly recommend them. Egro's are great, accurate, no reliability problems yet, and I haven't had a tough time getting the accessories I needed.

I only handled the P-01, and the DA was at about my limit for reach, so any further would probably seal the deal in terms of which model to get.
I own a p229 SAS and love it and shoot it awesome, but I must admit... I want a CZ p-01. The looks just really pull me in. I was considering a Rami but I already have a Kahr with a 3 in barrel for CCW. What is the best Model for a pure shooter. Are there different models of the p-01 and has it been made for many years?

Yes, but you can have the curved P-01 trigger put on the CZ-75 models that don't come with it as an after market modification.
The double action reach on the standard CZ 75's is a common complaint for many shooters. Many shooters just use the pistol "cocked and locked" in single action mode to avoid the long reach. No doubt, this is the reason why the newer models (P-01, SP-01, etc) have the curved trigger. However, the P-01 does not offer the "cocked and locked" option since it is a decocker model, but then it does have the curved trigger.
Go to the CZ USA site and take a look at the different models. Except for the CZ-97, which is a really large pistol, most of the models have the same/similar grip. However, take a look at the triggers and the safeties/decockers, these controls will make a big difference to the "small-handed" user.

Especially when we're talking DA/SA pulls out of the box and how the DA smoothness gets far better per 1k rounds, or a simple Wolff main spring pkg and replacing a 24lb main spring with a 20, 19, 18, 17, 16lb main. I found the Wolff 17lb main spring to be pure heaven and, with it, thru some 4000 rounds with no light strikes. Using a Sig Armorer DVD, they show you how to do it yourself, among many other things.. Great informative instructions to do it, and other things on your Sig gun/s, yourself.
Sigs CS, of late, is top notch IMO, as having ordered return springs for all 3 of my P229's, 9mm and 40cal, and when I received only the 9mm spring kit, and not the 2 40cal spring kits, I made a call of inquiry as to why, being told at the time of the order, all was in stock.
The nice young lady chked on your PC of stock and came back to tell me that they only had the return springs in stock, some 840, but not the rest of the springs that make up the spring sets. I told her I really only needed the return springs, as both my 40cals I bought used, and I had put 3000 rounds out each and it was near time to change them.
She said, "ok Mr. Ls, I'm sending you 2 return springs today, no charge, and well send the others when they come into stock. Is there anything else we can help you out with..?"
I said no, but thank you for your kindness and concern, and sure enough, 4 days later, I got the 2 free return springs in the mail. And 1 week later I got both the spring kits with return springs included.. which I did pay for.
Some people say Sigs CS is not as good as CZ's, but I have to believe that their bad experiences starts at their end, chewing the CS reps ear off from the get go, and quite frankly, I can understand how these types get put on the back-burner, and pay the price, in terms of time it takes to process their needs (pissed-off, in your face, "demands").
People skills is all it takes to get good, fast, service, and it works both ways.
IF you go with the Sig, you will not be sorry.
If you go with the CZ, I doubt you will be too disappointed, IF at all..
Both are top notch guns, with the trigger edge going to Sigs, IMHO, having looked at the CZ's prior to buying my Sigs, and it was in the triggers and total finish, plus the grip and weight difference, that won it for the lighter Sigs.
Accuracy is there, make no mistakes about that, for either gun out of the box.

I'd say get both. I tried out an SP-01 which was like BUTTAH!
This opposed to a P226 which hiccupped, but it was a rental gun, so who knows what had been done to it.

It's amazing to me the passion behind both brands although I'll have to give the edge to CZ fans for their unwavering commitment to their favorite brand. This forum seems to have a very loyal CZ following.

I cut my teeth on Sigs. I love them have owned over 10+ over just the last 3 years. They however are no longer the same company they used to be.
CZ on the other hand has continued to improve what they offer to the market place. They have built on the sucess of the P01. They now have the SP01, Shadow etc....
One of their biggest improvements is the purchase of Dan Wesson who has quickly become the Kimber of the day. They are one of the best production 1911s you can buy IMHO. Head and shoulders above the Sig GSR, or whatever they are calling it today.

I have only one complaint about my CZ-75b stainless. It's hard to find holsters. Every accessory you want will have to be mail ordered.
That being said, I absolutely love my CZs. The only mod I make is to replace the mag brake and spring guide. I like drop free mags and a steel spring guide.
The CZ are typically several hundred dollars less than the SiGs, and don't buy into the argument that SiGs are more durable. My wife is on her third Government issued Sig after 20 years in Law enforcement. The aluminum frame has a definite life span - of course so does steel If you were really interested in durability, you'd buy a Glock.
For those of us who grew up with the 1911, the ability to go 'cocked and locked' is appealing, the all steel CZ are soft on recoil which makes them great for speed shooting, and when you add the stainless version, there's really not much to worry about.
In the end, either pistol is a great choice.
