My latest knife.

I finished this up yesterday. Dacite blade with a Chinese Privet handle. The only modern tool used was my EDC shown in the picture. I used my EDC to widen the middle of the kerf in the hande for the lens shape of the blade because I got tired of breaking stone flakes. It's got a nice serrated edge that will really saw.

Most impressive. Just my opinion, but I would leave well enough alone. I doubt that primitive knives were ever perfect, so realistically, I think that the flaw is probably accurate to what Gak had to deal with. I mean, I know some of the old knapped stuff is fairly amazing, but the reality is that when your whacking off pieces of rock with another piece of rock, it's awfully hard to get it perfect.

Remember, anything you don't like on your stone blade will just go away when you refresh the edge.

I love it. A piece of artwork One question though, what is the cordage made of? Is it sinew? Or monofilament fishing line?

Just asking beacause mono will snap pretty easy if damaged.

But overall I would leave it alone also , it looks great.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I looks like the general opinion is to leave it alone, so after the sinew cures for a day or two more I'll cover the sinew with pine pitch and call it done.

Eleven Mike, I don't think he does stone. We did some last weekend and it took two days for the stone to cool enough to work with.

vicdotcom, the wrapping is whitetail backstrap sinew soaked in hide glue. If you look closely you will see some small grooves cut into the blade and the top of the handle. (I've never seen grooves in a handle before, but it seems like a logical thing to do.) When sinew that has been soaked in hide glue dries, it shrinks and pulls itself tighter. The sharp edge of the blade has been ground off where the wrapping goes. I don't think it's going anywhere.

Great work sir. Knapping is a great SKILL indeed. I say SKILL cuz its actually very very hard to do with any amount of skill. I tried knapping once...I dont think Ive been that frustrated and dejected since.
