i was going through my parents house during their move, and found a Raven Arms MP-25. since my father is away selling alot, i decided to try and fix the gun for my mother (dont worry, she shots better than i do). my father said the gun was old, and didnt know how it would react to having rounds put through it. so...can anyone give me a little info on the gun. is the manufacturer decent? ive broke it down but have little knowledge about handguns. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't trust your mother's life on and Jennings product or anything connected with Jennings or junk guns. For very little money you can buy her a reliable used handgun. Go out with your Mom and find her a nice old S&W K frame .38 Sp revolver. If you both prefer a small bore semi-auto Taurus, Beretta and a host of other reputable arms manufacturers produce .25, .32 and .380 ACP pistols. There are even some very small 9mm pistols out there that are low in cost and high on quality.

Since your Mom is a good shot and has been around handguns already, the both of you would probably enjoy shopping for a fair priced and reliable handgun together... :)

Good luck and have fun together.

i do have to admit, i was a little leery of the gun myself. shooting with the mom is great. but i wont teach her any skeet or trap stuff. i cant be havin her pullin the mom card and the "i shoot better than you card"

Spoken like someone who likely never owned and shot one... I understand the later guns may be different but I have 2 J-22's and they are very reliable. I bought the first when it first come out and liked it so much I gave it to my brother and bought another for me. They are fun at the strip mine. Tin cans died at a reasonably impressive rate- but then again I was younger, shot ALOT all the time and coud see:p

Ravens used to have a great rep here locally too. CEAP, Ugly and somewhat ungainley but they always went "bang" but as I said it was back in the day and before they were "bought out" - at least that is what I thought happened. So the blanket statement may not be as fitting as you stated. Alot of folk are predudiced because they are "cheap" -or were. Now the later products and bigger guns may be unworthy- I do not have first hand experience with them as the j-22 and ravens.

Maybe some other old guys have had the same FIRST HAND experience with the line that I and my friends have.

So don't worry yet. Check out that gun and shoot it first before ya claim it to be trash. High quality it is not but it just may be servicable and a good spare... and if it works it beats the heck out of a rock!

forget you have even found that gun. it's a pos, i have personally seen one kaboom in someones hand when i was a kid and it scared me so bad i almost would have never went back to the range again, but with much help and direction and explination form my dad i understood. but it was bad and it being at an indoor range didn't help either, everything seems louder and worse i guess. but i would never own a jennings, raven or the sort!

I wouldn't trust my life or anyone elses on a Raven. Keep it for a range gun, but for protection spend the cash on something worthy. My .02

Good kids don't like mom's shoot Ravens! I would take her to a shop & let her pick the gun she likes for her HD gun ;) Since it sounds like she already knows how to shoot, she'd probably be alright in a shop too ;)

So ya don't shoot smiths, colts rugers, glocks, sigs,or any othe gun either? they have all blown up at one time or another...:neener:

what do ya shoot then?

Raven P-25 pistols were probably the best of all the pot metal personal protection pieces that came from that somewhat notorious California firm.

That really isn't saying anything positive about the pistol.
I would recommend dumping it and buying her something better.

uh...so i guess im gonna go buy something better for my mom. i never knew a gun could get such a negative image!
