.358 Remington Maximum/38 Ballard Extra Long.

My Uberti rifle was self-built from the action up.
w/a Shilen .358 Caliber barrel that was hand fitted to mate with the Italian metric threads. Chamber was reamed for (.358) Remington Maximum with a long throat for rifle bullets.

Marbles rear tang sight and globe front. Stock and fore-end were carved from Exhibition grade Circasian Walnut. Curved butt plate and other small parts are Nitre Blued. Cartridge block is again Walnut and as pictured holds a broken shell extractor and a couple of laser bore sight inserts. Walnut accessory box holds jags, brushes, mops and turn screws.

Scope is a vintage El Paso Texan 4x with post/crosshair reticle. Mounts are (again) vintage Weaver pivot bases and rings. Small Marbles box @extreme right holds different size disc apertures.

I’m paper-patching cast 180 gr. Wheelweight bullets (pictured) and using Nosler Ballistic tip bullets. I also have 2 boxes of discontinued Speer Spire-Point 150 gr.

With the 150s I’m getting +/- 1800 FPS.

Accuracy @ 100 yards is under 2”

All in all, a fun 2year project that I thought some of you out there would enjoy seeing.

Nice work. I once saw junior shooter with a ".38 Ballard XL" at BPCR. Big heavy cast bullet just barely seated in the case to make room for powder.

Here is my original #2 with an ancient 25-20 barrel made by A.O. Zischang around 1916 . He also tuned the trigger I guess as it has a stop and is still crisp and sweet. The guy I got this from in 1970s used it as his "target rifle" occasionally as he was in his 80 s then . I passed this on in my family and they have it displayed in another state now. I gave him a couple hundred rounds of 25-20 ammo it is sighted in for with custom 70 grain Berger low drag bullets It was a 1/2 MOA at 200 yard gun .

BEAUTIFUL Gordon! I don’t have any firearms in that “flavor.” I do have a recently acquired S&W 1905 HE 32-20 6” bbl revolver and an old Savage magazine fed 32-20 rifle.

Gordon, is that Savage Model 1920 a .250 or a .300? I've been chasing one of those all my life! Not many were made.

.250 and I sold it very reasonable to a young man on THR a couple years ago. If he is till listening, I found the second .25 ACP insert cartridge PM me to claim it.
