Hello all. I finally got my vz2008 delivered and took it out shooting after breaking it down and lubing it up. It runs great and shoots nice groupings. Unfortunately they are up and to the right. trying to drift my sight using the ak tool and i am not able to. The thing doesnt want to adjust at all. I have the barrel end soaking in a bowl of wd40 to hopefully try and break it free.

any other tips or advice? I feel like that parkerized finish they put on it might be the culprit.

1) Marvel Mystery oil and let it soak a couple of days. Give it a try and it should work.
2) If this attempt doesn't work for you get a heat gun and apply a couple of hundred degrees of heat to the area let it cool again, try moving it again.
3) If this attempt doesn't work a liberal amount of carb cleaner and another overnight soak is in order.
4) If this doesn't work, repeat step two, then get a can of air that you would use to clean a computer keyboard. Shake the can, apply the directional straw and turn the can upside down and spray the air (which will be freon) directly on to the inner workings of the adjustment block of the sight. Attempt to move it again.
The oil lubricates and frees up any possible corrosion.
The heat breaks down anything sticky, such as locktite or oil that has been gunked up in the works.
The canned air freezes the affected area and will break loose any chips of metal that might be in the way.
Repeat as necassary and be patient.

I had that happen with mine as well. Here is what I did, whether it is advisable or not.

  1. Soak area with penetrating oil for a night
  2. Place sight in vice sandwiched between 2 sockets. Use a socket LARGER than the sight pin on the side you are drifting to, and slightly smaller than the pin on the "push" side.
  3. It helps to have a helper, while holding the rifle with the sandwiched sight, tighten the vice until the pin starts to move.

Once I broke the pin free, the AK sight tool worked fine.

You will find that the coating that the VZ2008 has (black paint) causes a thight fit to lots of parts. I had to work my stock a good 100 times before the button could be pressed with my thumb. The take down pins still require a mallet to get them started, and front sight adjustment was really stiff, but the old SKS tool that I had worked after some force.
