As the weather has warmed, this old fat bald man can't tolerate AIWB carry of my stainless Ruger P95 in the humid heat. A T-shirt and and un-tucked concealing outer shirt are way too warm for me here in the South. Skipping the T-shirt means dreaded chafing of my fat rolls and sweating into my Personal Protective Device. So I've switched to strong side pocket carry of my Ruger SP101 bobbed hammer snub in a holster for the season. The lower curve of this holster matches the curve of the inset pocket of my workwear utility jeans, and the hooks of the holster catch on the pockets front and rear opening fabric to assist in pulling the holster off the revolver during draw. The holster maker kind of overbuilds his crafts and the solid copper rivets are redundant to the backstitched seam ends. But I like the look.
The new taller front sight from Ruger to fix the POI about 8 inches high at 21 feet has yet to be installed but will be soon.
Thankfully, muscle memory from last year remains. Don.

Thank you. The rig disappears in my front right pocket but I have no trouble accessing the modified Uncle Mike's Boot Grips for a secure draw. Don.

Thats a good looking holster. Never tried to pocket my SP101 but I carry my S&W 638 there all the time

That is one slick pocket carry rig you've got going on there! I like your dehorned SP101, the modified boot grips, and the well conceived pocket holster!

Thank you each. I really like the setup. I've tried several pocket holsters and this is the best so far for me. And it makes me feel happy when I look at it. And the abbreviated rubber grips work nicely for me for a good hold. A very compact and comfortable revolver, even using +P .38 Special factory Personal Protection loads. Thank you all again. Don.

Smiths are such beautiful revolvers. Yours sure is handsome. And your photography skills are wonderful too. I wish I had similar image capturing skills. They would be helpful in photographing my leather crafts. I feel my pictures are more along the lines of mug shots. Well done! Don

Very tidy setups, both of you.

Don, I like that little Ruger. Don't think I've seen one in that barrel configuration out here west of the Colorado River...

I wear a belt I've made that is 1 3/4 inch wide. I can cinch it up tightly without discomfort to keep my britches up. This is of course a factory barrel configuration. Don't know how popular this style SP101 is, but it sure comes out of my pocket drag-free for me. Here in kentucky if you want it you pretty much can find it. Thank you everyone for the kind words. Don

Nice setup! I love the holster. I am a pocket carrier year round with my ruger lcp .380, but I carry a .357 if i venture into “los Anchorage”. Too much meth/bathsalts/booze there to rely on a .380

I lived in Anchorage and Willow for 35 years (1972-2007), and I hear you when it comes to "Los Anchorage". We retired and left for rural SW WA in 2007 at my wife's behest, and I had always wanted to stay in Alaska until I died based upon my greatly enjoyed early days there, but when working evening shift and getting off work at 2330 in the mid 2000's. I would hear so many gunshots after midnight that I would not venture out on the back deck without my 1911 .45. It got to be that bad in East Anchorage: Muldoon/N Lights.

I am sorry to be so off topic but I just had to respond to AI's post. Mods: please forgive me as there are not many folks from/in Alaska that respond on this forum. We have some camaraderie here, AI! I advise AI to have future contact with me to do it via PM's or, if he wishes, email. We do not want to waste space here on personal issues or extraneous stuff.

I will not post further on this subject here. Thanks in advance!

Jim

I have a 2.25" SP101 in 357 mag.
This is one of my EDCs in a leather Galco pocket holster.

Just ordered a 3" SP101 in 327 Fed Mag.
The appeal is the 3 different calibers it can shoot (I'm a reloader)
And it has 6 rounds.
Sorry, but I'm just giddy over the new SP101.
I've been wanting one for several years.

Jonesy814 I pocket carry my Model 638 on occasion but usually I go with a 4 o'clock position with my DeSantis SOF-TUK IWB holster. It's so lightweight and comfortable to carry I almost forget it's back there!

I never cared for an IWB holster (uncomfortable to me), but I always carried my CC gun "outside my pants". I have a SP101 3" .357/.38 gun, but it is quite heavy/bulky for a CC gun.

I have always been a 1911 steel .45 5" guy (which is slimmer than the SP101), and as I am 65, don't run, don't jog, and wear suspenders with no belt, this works for me on my 14-acre mini-farm:

Don't laugh too hard about this Covina Hardballer .45 as all of the crucial soft parts have been replaced by many carbon steel parts, the barrel has been throated, it has been my CC/HD/Truck gun since 1992, and runs very well. I have less than $300 into it plus elbow grease. That's not a bad deal even in the early 1990's with 2 factory stainless mags.

I installed a ClipDraw inside the right grip panel, carry it at 4 o'clock. Some may think it odd but I carry it butt forward outside the pants. It can be carried IWB as well but not butt forward.

They make all manner of these devices for revolvers as well.

Just food for thought.

I'm well acquainted with the AMT Hardballer as I did a lot of work on one for a friend of mine. Once you got done replacing all of the internal parts with quality ones that were properly fitted, the gun could be quite a tack driver with 230 gr. Ball ammo.

Have seen the ClipDraw but never knew anyone who ever used it on their guns. Probably the only guns I would try it on would be something small and lightweight, like a KelTec P3AT or a Ruger LCP II or possibly a Kahr CM9.

The grips on my SP101 are a set of Uncle Mike's Boot Grips, made for the SP101 and of rubber like material. I carefully removed a fair amount of butt end material in my stationary belt sander to the final contour shown. Although small they fit my hand well and I can securely grip my revolver. Don.

Although I often carry higher capacity semi-autos, my pocket carry option is still a S&W Airweight J-frame.

Below is my Model 642 with a Galco holster.

Someone once said, “The five shot revolver is at best a two bad guy gun in a three bad guy world.”

I still like my snubbies!

Very handsome! That's the revolver my loving wife Penny chose for herself, but with Crimson Trace grips. Don.

Thank you all for responding to my post. So many beautiful CCW choices we can make and methods of carry. Each one with advantages as we see them. Be careful out there friends, and watch for those who would do harm. My methods work for me. Don.
