What do the folks on here think of these 2?
How does the NAA 22 mag 1'5/8 barrel mini revolver with normal defensive rounds compare to the Keltec P3At with normal defensive .380 rounds?

And what defensive rounds would you guys recommend with each?

Energy, velocity?

Of course I know the Keltec can be reloaded much quicker than the NAA. But I also really like the NAA. I don't think there is much difference between them in accuracy. Or is there?

Thanks.

as a walk-the -dog gun, either in my pocket is fine. i own both.
but the p380 in a holdster in my pocket is my choice.
if the way you dress works better for one than the other--go with it.
they are not so costly that you can't have both, yes?

oh, and shot placement trumps power. and these to; id give the 380 the edge for power and controllability.

No comparison, all things considered. Get the KelTec.

Re-loads are not going to happen with the NAA in 2 minutes or in the dark. End of story.

Better yet go the route of the PF9 and that ups the ante another whole notch and it's still pretty easy to conceal.

Like the others, I'm gonna have to go with the .380.

For one, the round will punch a bigger hole, and that's important when looking at a defensive caliber.

Secondly, it's more powerful in general. There are also specificially-designed defensive ammo for the caliber, whereas the .22 Mag is just... .22 Mag.

And as the others mentioned, reloading the NAA in a high-stress condition and in possibly low-light conditions is not going to happen. The first thing to go in such conditions is fine motor control, which is exactly what you'll need in order to reload the fiddly little derringer.

Personally, if I were considering a derringer for a defensive piece, I'd go with something like a Bond Arms derringer, in a center-fire caliber. You give up the extra couple of rounds the NAA holds, but you gain the advantage of a "serious" defensive caliber as well as a much easier reload procedure.

As far as defensive rounds to use - I'd check out brands like Buffalo Bore, Double Tap, Speer, etc.

I own both and the NAA revolver is more of a novelty item to me.
The only advantage the .22 mag has in relation to the .380 is velocity and I don't think you would get much velocity from a barrel of less that 2". The .380 bullet is twice the weight and several times the frontal area of the .22.
The Kel-Tec gives you 7 rounds to 5 in the NAA and the revolver is a tiny single action. I think I could shoot 2 mags through my Kel-Tec before I could get off 5 from the NAA.
I have big hands and the P3-AT is not the best fit, but it is way ahead of the NAA revolver. I can stay com at 21 feet with the Kel-Tec, I'm lucky if I can hit a B27 target at all at that distance with the revolver.

You may want to consider the KelTec P32 also.. holds more rounds than either of the two you mentioned above at 7+1 rounds. The 32acp round is also far more controlable in the micro compact guns where shot placement is key. I recommend FMJ's as penetration is the the main objective. It is by no means a one shot stopper.. but two or three will probably do the trick, or at least give you time to retreat or get cover. Just something else to think about.

I faced the same decisions a couple of years back. I went with the P3AT for the same reasons stated above. I upgraded a few months back to a Keltec P11.

I agree.

This must be NAA Day; I already posted in another thread that I once had one in .22 LR misfire on me in a critical situation, so I wouldn't place much faith in one.

Well....I like my NAA .22 Mag 5 shot single action snubbie.

It's been carried more miles than anything else simply because of how easy it is to do so.

I also have a Seecamp .32, and it gets a lot of use.

I used to tote a 1911 a lot more than I do these days, but back then I traveled a much more diverse territory with a bit rougher company at times. :)
