Hi guys!!

I was at the gun shop today and I found this very little gun..it is sweet!!! It is a NAA mini revolver chambered for .22 lr (we can not get any kind of "magnum" ammo here), I did a Search on THR and you guys seem to know it pretty well...

Ok, I am getting the gun (will pay for it on tuesday because tomorrow is a holiday)..but I have this little question....

"If you could only carry one as an EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS gun....would you pick the NAA or the Baby???"

I ask because I just love the way the NAA dissapears in my pocket...but I am worried about that little Aguila 30 grainer not getting enough speed in that short (really short, I guess not more than an inch) barrel....maybe a .25 acp (50 grain) out of a 2" barrel will be better???

Higher ammo capacity???

Now you guys take over the debate!!! Pictures with both guns would be great...

I am waiting to hear from you P95Carry!

Skunkabilly...in the "Mouse" world...which is more "tactical"??? hehe

hahaha! I ain't the expert here buddy ..... way too many brains in this place to have that honor.

If it's a choice for carry tho .... Baby for sure. The .22lr is not only lacking compared even to the humble .32 but .. as many might state .. the rimfire cartridge is NOT as reliable as a centerfire. Only needs one round with a poor disposition of priming compound and you have a FTF .... ''No Bang'' ........ and probably when you most need it.

So ... hard to say more than that ... Baby for carry .. that's what i'd do ... and also ... it ain't hardly over large itself either!!:p

I carried a NAA 22 for many years. (Upgraded to a 22 Mag)

Nice little gun. I had been using a Colt 25 when I switched to the NAA.

Know of a local shooting with a NAA, The range was point blank. Ammo was CCI Stingers. The wound was terrible looking. Took the fight right out of the guy.

I know several people that carry 2 or more of them.

I owned and carried an NAA Mini for a while. (It was a temporary situation while something more powerful was being repaired.)

If I had to carry one again, it would be a last choice only. The 22LR may kill a lot of people but I bet most of them die slowly. I wouldn't consider a 22LR much of a fight stopper (and YES I have been shot with one, out of a rifle.)

The ergonomics of the Mini's grip is terrible. The revolver is cute, but I found it extremely hard to grip and hold because it was so small. Reloading speed is also terrible. You have to pull the base pin out, remove the cylinder and poke the empties out with the pin, then put the fresh cartridges in the cylinder and reassemble the cylinder into the frame. (I suppose you could buy a spare cylinder or two.)

Better than nothing, probably Yes, but almost any other handgun is better for defense IMHO.

Here's the problem:

IN THE US, I would unquestionably advocate the NAA. Even in 22LR vs. 22Mag.

But in 22LR, you have to use only the very best ammo. CCI Stingers and Remington Yellowjackets are two I'd trust over others.

I'm guessing you can't score that stuff in Peru.

Now, you could experiment with taking loaded rounds apart and putting a wee bit more powder in...that's a damned tricky game and not for the unwary. It's borderline stupid in fact, although not impossible to do right if you can get ahold of an accurate enough scale.

Rogelio: get a bigger .22lr!!!!!!! I told you a used Berretta Jaguar or a Bersa or a quality small revolver like some Taurus. THEN you will be able to: #1 enjoy the realities of target shooting, which you can do and enjoy with a .22 ,so you can actually hit your target which is the most important thing. #2 you will have sperior reliability and accurracy and you can still conceal the previous guns I named if that is a big deal.;)

To answer the question as asked: I've owned both and I'll take an NAA mini over a Baby Browning every time. Why?
1. quicker first shot from the NAA. The Browning is not a design that one can safely carry cocked & locked in a pocket. This mandates chamber-empty carry and makes the first shot a two-handed affair.
2. Reliability. My Baby Browning would choke every once in a while, even on ball ammo. Clearing it was, once again, a two handed affair. If you get a misfire in the mini, you cock it again and go on to the next round.

There isn't much to choose from in terms of effectiveness. Neither one is any great shakes.

Astra Cub/Colt Jr. would be a drop-safe development of the Browning Baby. I think the .25 is more accurate and easier to shoot fast.

Use the Browning with Silvertips only. Don't even consider FMJ's. And only up close and personal. If you can't get Silvertips, go with the .22 and wait until you can smell the bad guy's breath.

Just to add .... concensus seems quite .22 oriented .... much as anything cos of the platform .. I agree with Golgo - up to a point. My ''Baby'' was pretty much like trying to hold a matchbox to shoot .. in big hands it sorta ''disappears'':p

Mine tho (luck maybe) never gave me cause for unreliability ... so that changes my bias some. It always went ''bang''! I agree tho re carry mode probs ... that is true.

However for me - bottom line is still the dread of that ''click'' ........ as a .22lr rim is impacted - and ........ ZILCH! But again - as mentioned .. maybe make sure if goin the NAA route .. get the best possible .22 ammo ...

Another vote for the NAA "Mini". :D

However, I prefer the .22 magnum with a 1-1/8"
barrel; stock, straight out of the box. :uhoh: :)

FootNote: If the bullet happens not to strike the BG,
its most likely he/she will die from S-H-O-C-K. The
mini is really L-O-U-D; much like that of the .357
magnum!

I must be in the minority here, but I prefer .22 Lr to .25 ACP any day of the week. Out of the 200 Gazillion rounds I have fired from various .22 guns, I can count the number of ammo related failures on one hand.

That said, I would carry the one that I shot better. I used to have a .22mag NAA revolver, and I could not hit anything with it. The grip was too small for my big hands and the trigger reach was too short. It was also slow for fast follow up shots. Accuracy is paramount with mouseguns IMO. If you can't hit a tennis ball at 5 yards with it, it is useless. You might as well carry an icepick.

I got my hands on a small automatic .22 that was not much bigger than the NAA, but was far more accurate and fast. I have since switched to a .380 (kel tec) as an always gun, but I would not hesitate to trust a .22, if it was all I had at hand and provided that the gun itself was reliable.

Carry the gun you can hit with.

I was looking for a mouse gun myself recently. I got a Beretta Jetfire. I could have got a "Bobcat" in .22LR, but I think that the .25 ACP will be more reliable. I've had lots of .22 LR rounds that wouldn't go bang...

Sure, the .25 ammo is way more costly, but in a defense gun you need all the reliablity you can get...

This guy (Rogelio) has posted before that you can't get guns easily ect in Peru. With that consideration don't you mousegun affectionado's think he needs something he can practice hitting something with? Takes more than a box or two of ammo to become a creditable shooter with a mouse gun. If ammo costs a gazillion bucks in Peru obviously he needs a .22. Besides IF Rogelio wants to become a 'pistolero' as he says he does the mouse guns are the absolute worst way to start. Somebodies living in a dangerous fantasy here, I can safely say after 40 years of mouse gun experience!:(

I actually carry a Glock 25 (main), and a Baikal IZH 71H (which takes turns with a 4" .38 spl depending on weather). Also a little bottle of OC.

Yes, guns are expensive and hard to get (permit) here in Peru, but it's not like I am unarmed or only depending on a mousegun. As I stated on the first post, it would be a
"If you could only carry one as an EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS gun....would you pick the NAA or the Baby???"
. Not as a main gun !!!

Now you make a point when you say that .22lr ammo is cheaper....it is about 5.00USD a box, so it is actually cheap! I can buy 4 boxes of .22lr for the same money I can get just 1 of .25 acp! I love shootong my Baby, but it is as expensive as shooting my Glock and even more expensive than shooting my .38spl!

It sucks to live in a place where guns are so expensive....

Hey , no fair: I remember the post when you said your father had a 9mm, and how you longed to get a real pistol. OK based on that info , obviously you keep the .25 Browning for a pocket piece,PRACTICE with the .38(and the Mak) with the cheapest ammo you can find, and Qualify your self with the Glock which is what you should be carrying for SD.;)

yes, my father owns 2 berettas.....and I'd love to get a gun in a real caliber!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry if the post sounded like I did not like your comment, I just thought you were thinking I was using the Browning as a main gun and that I was living a "dangerous fantasy"

I openly apologize if you were offended or felt uncomfortable. Sorry man!

No offense taken , I just want you to practice a whole lot Mi Amigo,as the chances of you "seeing the elephant" down there is prolly ALOT higher than here for me , now. What you need is some combat training. I know if I lived in your country I'd be sucking up to the local Police Special Unit pistol team and being the water boy to get some quality TACTICAL range time. A few times of paying for Pizza for the croud ought to get you an invite, you get the picture. Also good to have the local cops on your side in a Latin country if you want to be a Pistolero.;)

I really like your thinking...I am currently a member of "Amigos de la Policía" (sort of a charity thing where we make donations to the cops -raffles, party for their kids, social help, etc) and I get to carry a very nice ID ! It is very rewarding, as I have never had a single speeding ticket for a year  !!Also it might proove helpfull whenever I get to a fight.....

(I said charity because a Peruvian cop makes 3780 soles a year -315 month- and a dollar is worth 3.48 soles....... they are very underpayed, given the fact that minimum wage for a private employee is 420 soles a month.)

Average income for an independant businessman in Peru?? Ranging from 30K- 200K (I am near 180 k USD) a year. So you get the difference and why we help the cops....with incomes as low as theirs, they still put their life in the line every day!!
