I received a flyer in the mail soliciting donations for the National Park Conservation Association. They are concerned about the budget cuts and the impact on the national parks.

Keep Parks Open

Sick of hearing about the sequester? Mad that Congress and the president are allowing these indiscriminate across-the-board federal budget cuts to happen? So are we. NPCA has continued to fight the impact on parks because the effects could be serious—to jobs and countless services that Americans rely on every day. It’s not too late for lawmakers to put a plan in place that will safeguard national parks from the worst cuts.

Below is my response to them and why I choose not to support them:

Hello,

My wife and I received a request for a donations in the mail. As former Alaska residents that enjoyed visiting Denali, Gates of the Arctic, & Kenai Fjords National Parks, we were prepared to donate to NPCA. Before doing so, however, we felt we should familiarize ourselves with the stated opinions & policies posted on the website. We have decided not to donate due to the many statements NPCA made in opposition to allowing law-abiding citizens to carry firearms in national parks.

The national parks are public land and no government entity or private organization has the right to restrict the ability of law-abiding citizens to carry firearms for self defense. As Alaska licensed land surveyors, we can attest to the utility of firearms in remote areas.

We would also like to point out that reversal of this prohibition has not resulted in an increase of violence or poaching in national parks. If NPCA ever decides to reconsider its stance on firearms and chooses to support the right of law-abiding citizens to carry firearms in national parks, we will be more than happy to make a donation.

I'd be happy to contact them but don't have the time to review their entire website. Can you post a link to the page where they take about firearms, I did a quick look and didn't see it.

Good on you. Every person, government and organization should constantly be reminded of the position of free Americans. If you deny us our Constitutional Rights we will deny you when your hour of need comes along.
