I'm hoping in response to this post a gun enthusiast in the Colorado Springs area would be willing to share some of their knowledge and experience with someone new to hand guns, and allow me to accompany them to a range. Of course I would cover costs of ammo etc. I'm an ex-pat Brit now a resident of Colorado Springs. I'm 36, married and hold a position of responsibility at my place of employment. I'm a climber and am very responsible when it comes to 'life and death' sports.
I've lived here a few years and own a .22 rifle and shotgun and enjoy hunting with both. I've been thinking about getting a handgun but when asking for advice on which one to get, the common response is 'go shoot and find which one fits your hand'.
Problem is I don't have many friends who own a hand gun and there's nowhere to rent a gun other than the Whispering Pines Gun Club and their membership fees are a little steep. My in-laws have a few guns between them including a S&W .357 and Ruger .22.
I'm interested in a compact gun for CCW and in my mind am going between all sorts of different guns for different reasons. From a revolver because some say they're a better choice for a beginner shooter, through compacts like Glock 17, sub-compact and even 380's. I've read a lot of threads about the pros and cons of all. I've shot both and like the .357 well enough but I'm leaning towards a semi-auto. I've been to a couple of gun shows and found Sigs feel really nice in my hand, Glocks feel odd, but how they feel when they shoot is what I'd really like to know.
If anyone is in a position to help I would very much appreciate it and in return offer to take you climbing, if that's of interest to you
