Nebraska Legislature passes permitless carry bill, sending it to the governor - 27th Permitless Carr

Yup!!! I’m happy!! As vocal a proponent as Pillen is on 2A matters(wasn’t he one of the govs “featured” in the panel at shot show?) I can’t imagine him not signing it. Thanks senator Brewer!!!

Unbelievable---I need to pinch myself just to be sure

Local news station reports the Gov will sign it.

Might have to go buy a new carry gun---just because.
Just what I was thinking. Lol. I’m trying to decide if the super redhawk I’ve been eyeing counts as a “carry gun”. Haha

Ironically the original thread for this bill was locked this past Sunday because apparently to the mods it looked like the bill was going nowhere.

I'm glad this bill passed, if you read it though, it doesn't have an emergency clause in it, so I think that means it will become law in 90 days. Either way, I'm glad this bill broke Fillibuster by 1 vote and will be law! After several failed attempts its finally a reality. 27 states now have this as law.

I believe(emphasis on that) the governor can put it in effect immediately if he chooses. It otherwise becomes law on July 1 when the “fiscal year” begins. Don’t quote me on that.

Awesome!

But how many states realistically would go the permitless carry route after this?

1, 2 at the most?

So once this passes is it safe to assume a "unplanned" mass shooting will occur at some locale within the state?

If you look at the history the last few years anytime a pro 2nd amendment move is made a mass shooting occurs within 2 months of the date.

One of the (in my opinion, more) things this bill does is it removes the ability of localities within the state to require registration of firearms or any limitations of possession and purchase that is more restrictive than the state level. State Preemption is the legal term I believe. I am already talking with people to get a push to repeal the purchase permit for handguns and keep some momentum going.

That was Lincoln and Omaha that did the registration. Omaha for pistols and I think some rifles. Lincoln wanted all AWBs registered. Well now that is no longer legal for them to do so, hopefully all current documents will be destroyed (wishful thinking).

Lincoln is weird! (I live here. Lol) I really hope for a different mayor soon. And everything considered her attitude towards 2A is a major factor!!

Mass shootings, averaging 5.17 deaths per, occur more than weekly in 2023 so your argument is ridiculous.

Are you actually arguing that mass shootings are orchestrated by the Libs? If so, that’s incredibly un-American and absurd. Freedom has a price and we can face it like adults rather than lie and deflect about it like YouTube conspiracy flunkies as other sites are riddled with.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The U.S. is setting a record pace for mass killings in 2023, replaying the horror on a loop roughly once a week so far this year.

The carnage has taken 88 lives in 17 mass killings over 111 days. Each time, the killers wielded firearms. Only 2009 was marked by as many such tragedies in the same period of time.

No one makes a correlation between the latest high performance sports car and the trends with deaths on the highways. Well, except with news stories regarding specific deaths of actual occupants in those new sports cars.

Any death by firearm is tragic. But a killing spree motivates politicians and "journalists" to remind everyone that guns are killers. (Their words, not mine.) And they talk about banning types that aren't often used in sprees.

And then there was at least one recent killing spree in which the dead killer left notes, saying how he wanted to highlight how easy it is to buy guns, and he purposely used an AR15 to further an agenda. There's another spree killer where they won't release her manifesto.

Back on topic. I'm very glad to hear the Nebraska bill includes Local Preemption. Omaha made firearm purchase as difficult as possible. Get purchase permit. Buy gun. Take down to register at the police station. Two separate documents, purchased two places at different times.

How that was legal is beyond me. Literacy tests and poll taxes were used to control who could vote, and that has all been made illegal, fortunately. Firearm ownership is another constitutional right without the same enthusiasm to protect it. Justice Thomas is right, it's treated as a second class right.
