If someone says to you:

"If more guns made people safer, America would be the safest country in the world"

What's the most clever comeback you can say? I'm trying to come up with a sig for another board I post to and there's an anti there with that as his sig.

Thanks !!!

"fifty years ago, there were far fewer gun laws - you buy guns through the mail, and buy high capacity assault wepaons for a few dollars each as surplus from the Federal Government. We also had a much lower crime rate, too"

If restrictive gun laws made us safer, then NYC, Chicago, and Washington DC would be crime-free utopias.

More Guns Less Crime - Buy the Book (John Lott)

America didn't make the top 10 in violent crime (England and 9 other developed countries that ban guns did) I believe it was a Scandanavian University report that had the stats a year or so ago. They may not have all been developed countries, but many were, including England. Adjust accordingly. If I can find the report I'll post a link. It was fairly well publiciced, not in the mainstream media of course.

Love it or leave it.

How about, "America is safer because of guns. It would be a hellhole if we didn't have guns. The thin blue line of police protection is an illusion. Without guns the guys that are robbing seven elevens where the clerks are told not to resist, would be coming into homes that are more valuable targets. The only thing keeping the wolves at bay is the certainty that more than half of the homes are protected by guns, and by people that would ABSOLUTELY use them in defense of their family. A guy might not fight for the case of beer and the $50 in the cash register at work, but he would blow someone away in a second to protect his family."

The bit about LA, Chicago, NYC and DC is good.
They have the most restrictive gun laws, the largest police forces with the biggest budgets but still have the highest crime.

For whatever good it will do. Arguing with leftwingers gets taxing after a while. :barf: So many of the rabid antis ignore all logical arguments. You can quote from the Constitution, Declaration of Ind, US Code on the militia, the writings of the revolutionary time period, USSC rulings, federal court rulings, quotes from the Dalai Lama, Jesus, the Bible, the Koran, the Talmud, FBI uniform crime statistics, CDC reports and just about anything else you can think of and it won't sway their opinion.

It is the safest country in the world - For those who exercise their right to own a gun. Seatbelts don't work unless you use them and guns won't make you safer unless you buy one and practice with it. You have to take responsibility for your own safety. That's why I own a gun and THAT'S why I'm safe!

Parachutes make jumping from a plane safe. But you DO have to pull the cord!;)

Not snappy, but...

"I'd agree with you. More guns in civilian hands means that the government can't murder us like the Nazis did to the Jews, or the Communists in China or Russia or Cambodia did to theirs, or Rwanda, Liberia or other African nations. I'm glad you saw Innocents Betrayed."

"If laws against guns made people safer, New York would be the safest city in America."

Its an incorrect use of statistics. Also known as a locgical fallacy. We do not have more guns per capita then anyone else. We just have more guns then anyone else. Look at switzerland. Everybody owns a gun. I am sure its pretty safe there.

"If more guns made people safer, America would be the safest country in the world"

"It is. Only in America can you protect yourself."

"If restrictive gun laws made us safer, then Los Angeles, NYC, Chicago, and Washington DC would be crime-free utopias."

You guys rock! :)

The level of sanity here is overwhelming sometimes.

In Kennesaw, Ga. there's a law stating that all home owner's must own a gun. Kennesaw, Ga. has one of the lowest crime rates in the country.
