Hello fellow THR members,

This is my first post, I am new to this forum. I am in need of some advice. I have inherited a very large amount on ammunition from a family member. The ammunition numbers in the tens of thousands of rounds of everything from .22 to .45-70. But over 3/4 (estimate) is reloads and I am aware that you cannot sell reloads unless you have special licensing. The reloads were not done by me anyways. But I have sold what I can of the factory ammo but know I'm faced with all this reloaded ammo that I don't reload for or shoot. My question is this;

What would you advise for me to do with this ammo? I am wanting to get rid of it and make some money at the same time (selling a lot of things to help finance a new safe). Thanks for the help.

Kyle

EDIT: wasn't sure where to put this, but I guessed. Sorry if it is in the wrong forum.

Well......

Kyle, you sure can sell it as reloaded ammo....but sell it as "components use only" and make absolutely sure the fella who buys it understands it's reloaded and not by you! Keep any labels or data you find intact and with the cartridges, but caution folks not to rely on it as gospel.
There have been many times I've bought reloaded ammo and taken it apart. Once, I bought about 3,000 rounds of rifle ammo from an estate- no one else would buy it because the shooter who passed away had experienced a theft and claimed to have "spiked" certain rounds in certain boxes known only to him! (I never saw any spiked ones...of course, I took them all apart.)
The price you ask, I'm afraid, must be low to entice folks into disassembly.

If you trust the family member that relaoded it, shoot it yourself and then sell the cases.

Thanks guys. The idea of selling it as "components only" sounds like it will be the best bet. A low price is fine, I'm really just wanting to unload this ammo onto someone who wants to deal with it, and I want to make a little bit in the process. Thanks again, especially you Bill.

I will most definitely post it here and also on The Firing Line (the forum I frequent most). Thanks again guys.

Also, I found this form here from J&G that they have people buying reloaded ammo for "component use only" fill out, is this something I should do?

You can- but when you advertise it and correspond with the buyer, make sure your ad and your email mention it's for components only, you didn't reload it, and don't recommend shooting it as is without disassembly. The Internet and email are forever..... negating the necessity of the form.
Good luck!

Bill, good thinking. I will make triple sure that this is not meant to be fired as is.

Where in the world would you start with pricing?

Whatever you feel the value is to yourself. I'm sure it would be a major headache to pull a few of each style of round and figure out what it is to get a current price.

Justin

Kyle- one bit of advice- try to sell it as one lot, or you will definitely drive yourself NUTS! I speak from experience! :)
Also, figure out what you need and maybe you can trade your lot for your needs.
I'll be looking! (One never knows...)

Bill, thanks for the advice. I've been talking with another member here, who is local to me, so I might be able to sell the bulk of it through FTF. Here it is, the master list of what I have.
