Placed a Mossberg 590a1 on layaway at gunshop out of town (to keep it from getting away until I can pick it up). I want to exchange the factory stock and fore end for the Hogue 12 Length of pull overmolded stock and fore end. Trouble is, I see conflicting fit information. Some retailers list the Hogue as fitting the Mossberg 500, but don't list the 590A1 specifically.
1)Please someone advise me if they are the same (500 vs. 590A1) for aftermarket stock fitting.
2) The Hogue overmolded fore end may require a longer adapter nut (part number 05020) if the fore end tube on the 590a1 is 6.5 to 6.75 inches in length.
3) To further complicate my purchase, if the action bar is a one piece type, it will need to be replaced with "a standard Mossberg action bar". Huh???

Anyone care to tell me what I will need, or am I best off to wait until it's in my hot little hands and I can figure it out for myself? I was hoping to order it and get it close to the time I pick up my gun. Thanks all, in any case.

What is wrong with the original equipment? Have you tried it and determined it just isn't working for you or are you going off of internet "stuff" as to what might be cool?

I'd shoot it first. You would probably be better off spending money on ammo.

Valid question oneounce. Having owned Hogue products for years, and having an 870 stocked with the 12 inch LOP overmolded Hogue stock, I can honestly say I prefer it to the hard polymer the factory installs on the Mossberg (the Remington 870 too). The shorter LOP suits the build of family members better, and the overmolding is easier for me and mine to grip comfortably. The changing out is no different from a person's wish to choose a favorite scope or holster brand and style. Nothing being said to condemn the factory stock. I just prefer the Hogue. I fully respect another gunner's wish to retain the factory stock. And I'm not a "mall ninja" as are some who immediately choose to change or add to a factory gun...I've been a shotgunner over 40 years. My own voice of experience speaks to me in this situation. Fair enough - if you have done this before and with your family members, made a determination, than go for it. I only ask because way too many get something, see some ad and then want to go make major changes before they try what came with it originally......

Myself?

I can't imagine any grown man or woman who likes getting hit in the face with their thumb, and getting the crap kicked out of them with a 12" LOP stock every shot.
If they know any better?

(Unless you wear heavy winter coats or body armor year around.)

I've fit and made way too many shotgun & rifle stocks for other shooters over the last 45 years to believe otherwise.

Sorry, but thats just the way it is.

I know what you refer to RC. The shorter stock is not ideal for my 6 foot 5 inch frame, but is great for my petite wife and daughter. A slip-on recoil pad brings it up to what is comfortable for me, while in a dire situation I highly doubt the shorter LOP will be of concern to me. I am definitely not interested in one of the M-4 adjustable stocks.
Can anyone answer my questions in my original post?
Don
