OC Spray, "Kick ass in a can"
This is my first post here, but I thought I would wade in on this topic since I was looking up some info on the Fox Labs OC spray and have an extensive backgound using oc in my job.
Prior to coming to my full time job at Front Sight, I worked in the Security and Executive protection field for more than 10 years. My last job was as a Public Safety officer for a Southern California Level 1 Trauma Center just outside of LA. This was a 2,000 employee hospital system, with a 25 bed chemical dependency unit and a 30 bed lock down unit/psych ward for the county mental Health system. We had 14 man Department and two full time K-9 handlers. Our issue spray was Def Tech stream, and it was less than effective! I would have never believed that I would be in 3-4 altercations a week while doing security, but this was an action packed job most of the time. Majority of people we contacted had some form of alcohol and or drugs on board, many were off the meds and had a lessened impulse control and higher pain threshold than normal. It was a surreal working environment.
During the last 10 years I have had the pleasure and or miss-pleasure of spraying upwards of 30 people and 4 dogs with some form of OC.
I have used the following brands of oc during that time.
Def-Technologies 10% oc stream (It sucked) the formula is weak, and the stream does not effect the lungs as much as the cone-fogger delivery systems. I saw more oc failures with this than any other, hence why we switched to CAP-STUN.
CAP-STUN, 5.5 % with trigger top, none of the people I ever sprayed with the Cap Stun did anything else, as long as you got them at least 1/2 or 1 good hit right in the face, and it took the fight right out of them.
One such incident comes to mind-
I single handedly confronted 4 gang members in process of giving a one way beating to two other possible rival gang members in the emergency room parking lot. I confronted them, gave them the command to hands up-get down and then gave them each a well placed blast in the face as I lit them up with the Sure Fire, I got three dead on and the 4th guy turned just in time to get a partial burst across his chest.
They stopped fighting, and tried to run and got less than 5 feet from where it all started and went down, cursing, choking and trying to put out the flames on the face. I was able to hook two of them together with hinged cuffs and the rest of the guys were mopped up by my back up. One of them had tried to stab the two victims with a screw driver in this incident.
The local PD carried the Def Tec spray and was not fond of it.
The CHP is issued the Def Tech spray and had to shoot a guy after he pulled a sword on a motor officer in our area. (The spray had no effect on the subject and he commenced to charge the officer after he was sprayed)
I am a real big fan of the oc for dogs too, I was charged or menaced by them and giving them a 1-2 second blast stopped me from shooting them or taking them out with the ASP, and risk getting bit. Some times just the PSssssssst sound of the spray coming scared them and made them run away.
After reading an article about several Corrections Officers being injured from using the Fox Labs products, I decided to give them a look.
Everything I have read about Fox labs has been positive and I want to try it, even if it causes injuries, I will leave that for the ??????? I spray with it to deal with the hole in his esophagus or his lungs.
I have been sprayed with the Punch, it's bad, really bad!
The Cap stun I just got misted with and new I did not ever want to get sprayed with it, especiall since I have seen it in action.
The Def Tech was not that bad but I could not see and the CS/OC mix only sucked after I took a shower and it came out of my hair again and into my eyes. It was painful when sprayed with it, but it did not take the fight out of me at all.
I just ordered 2, 3 OZ units with cone spray and cop top and 2, 4 OZ units as well as the 1 pounder for the automobile. (Just in case the Road Rage aggressor makes it to the side of the road or follows me)
