Hi y'all.

In my ongoing (and often hair-brained) 1911 upgrade project, I have decided to install a new trigger. The trigger is a flat-faced trigger with a non-adjustable overtravel screw by 10-8 Performance. Tried to install it tonight and encountered the following problem: the trigger does not fit all the way into the trigger bow cutouts in the frame. Inspected the frame and no burrs or other issued there. The bow on the trigger travels smoothly through the cutouts. It appears (to me, at least) that the trigger itself is too tall to clear the shallow cutouts in the trigger guard. Does anyone have any experience fitting this particular trigger? Can anyone offer me any advice/tips on how to fit a trigger that won't clear the trigger guard cutouts? Any help will be, as always, greatly appreciated.

Replacement triggers will be oversized for fitting as that is one of the reasons for replacing it in the first place. First, clean up (file/stone) the frame window and trigger bow track to remove any roughness/irregularities. Then mark the top and bottom of your new trigger with a sharpie or magic marker, reinsert, and look for interferance. Remove material evenly from the top and bottom of the fingerpiece while trial fitting often to check for clearance and to see if you need to bias your filing more to the top/bottom. Filing technique is up to you. I prefer to place a flat smooth cut file on the table and move the trigger against the file as I have more control that way.

Howdy. First make absolutely sure there are no burrs in the channels. Use a good light. Take a magic marker and blacken the top and bottom of the trigger pad. Gently push it into the frame until you meet resistance. Pull it back out and look at your blackened surfaces. The shiny spots where the black has rubbed off are where you need to work. Either a fine cut file or a piece of sandpaper on a flat surface will work. Remove a little, just a couple of strokes and check the fit again. Be patient and work slow. Blacken again and check the fit. Eventually it will go in. The final fit should allow the trigger to move under its own weight when the frame is pointed up and down. Be patient.
