Well, after buying a Mossberg 590A1 shotgun last week I finally got a chance to try field stripping it last night in order to clean it of any factory preservative and get acquainted with the process (something I do with all new guns). Disassembly was easy enough but I cannot get the bleeding thing reassembled. The manual is not much help and is even vague at parts. Here is what I am doing - holding the receiver upside down, I slide the pump onto the magazine tube and insert the action bars into the receiver. Make sure they enter their grooves. Okay, check. Now insert the elevator, easy enough. Make sure it is alingned with the edge of the cavity in the bottom of the receiver. Okay, check. Insert bolt, make sure ejector enters slot in side of bolt. Okay, this seems to fit in sort of right. At this point something feels like it's not fitting right. Hmmm... press down elevator until it is resting on the bolt. Okay. Now comes the part when you insert the bolt slide. For the life of me I cannot get this part to go in right. It is like it will not just fit. Even a couple of times it seemed like it fit in right, but when I manipulated the pump to see if the bolt and bolt slide would move freely inside the receiver (per the manual) they did not. What am I doing wrong? I worked for nearly two hours trying to reassemble this thing last night. Thanks in advance.

I looked for tutorial with pictures on Google, but could not find one. If some one could point me toward one they know of, I would appreciate it.

Send it to my FFL, I'll reassemble it after I pick up my just-arrived 590A1 and figure out how all the parts go together. I promise to return your shotgun once I get it back together. ;) :neener:

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along, or I'll be asking the same question this weekend after I meet up with my FFL to fill out the paperwork on my 590A1...

look at the reciever.

there should be a gap in the rails there the trigger group usually resides.

scoot the bolt and action bars over there.

insert the bolt slide, while moving the action bars back and forth some to make sure you get everything lined up.

slide everything forward of the gap.
