A friend of my brother in law's died and we decided to help his wife by purchasing some of his gun collection. Upon arriving, we found a few hundred weapons (no joke, there are bags of US Property 1911s and 1911A1s). He had several M1 Garands (Winchester and Springfield Armory) and several M1 Carbines (make unknown at present). I need pointers as to what to look for and what a decent price is for these. They are all serviceable to good condition.

Not being an Garand expert, I'd base my price off of what the CMP is asking for them, $400-$500. I think you'd be safe at those prices.

As far as the carbines, current market prices seem to be all over the place. I'll let someone else have a stab at those.

Now how about the directions to those guns????:D

Not much info to go on but..Garands should sell for a low of $400-$500 for a safe rebuilt USGI. A reimport (Blue Sky) about $100 less. An original USGI with correct revisions/dates up to $1000 and much higher.

Carbine prices have been moving up till they almost parallel the Garand prices. The rarer makes Rockola, Quality Hardware etc bring a premium. As does an original build with a flip up rear sight, push button safety, and no bayo lug. The high end seems to be $950-$1000. The later, rebuilt USGI rifles in fair shape should go for $350-$400, reimports about $50-$75 less.

No kidding, Buzz-Knox, if you do intend to sell the majority of those weapons, this is the place to advertise.

Put up a notice to sell and a large number of THRers will beat a path to your door.

Find a copy of Fjestad's Blue Book, for estimating purposes. It gives a good quick and dirty rundown on 1911s and on Carbines; haven't checked it for Garands.

Check at the CMP website's forum. Lotsa info, there, from guys who spend a lot of time on research.

Take pics of them, and put them on here and Auction Arms. You`ll sell all of `em if you dont ask too much!
