I have just got my hands on an older s&w revolver. It is a .38 spcl 6 shot with a 5 inch barrel, I believe. It is patented Feb 6 06 Sept 14 09 Dec 29 14. It is in really good shape but might have been refinished at some point. The serial # on the bottom of the butt is 644xxx and has no letter prefix. Any help with this revolver would much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The serial number falls in the range of .38 Special Hand Ejector M&P 1915-1942. to be more precise will require a letter form S&W. Yes it has been very heavily polished and re blued

Yes, an M&P from the 1930s era. It is possible to narrow it down to that decade based on the barrel/ejector rod cuts and s/n. The grips are from the immediate post-war period, though. I would say it's worth $250 to $300 despite the re-finish and incorrect grips. These are fine shooters.

The Standard Catalog of S&W notes serial number 642357 was around 1934 and serial 651500 was 1935, so 1934 or 1935.
