Ok guys so due to me building a house we are moving in with the wife’s grandparents that being the case I need a place to put all of my guns and the only option that works I’d hanging them in the wall any ideas on how to make a good Functional wall hanging gun rack?

Safe in the garage?

Since it’s temporary, just use 2 2x4s with holes drilled at equal spacing for some dowels to fit closely into.

Mount the 2x4s on the wall vertically either 32 inches apart to account for 16 on center Stud spacing or put up a horizontal nailer if you need less space between the dowel pegs for a shorter length rifle.

Buy a bunch of gun socks and line them up against a wall. If any kids are in the house put all the ammo in a locked box.

How many are we talking about? Now might be a good time to investigate small safe options, the type built for single or double long guns kept in a closet or under the bed. There are heavy duty locking hard cases with atmospheric seals. Basic metal storage boxes that don’t weigh a ton but can store a dozen or so for $150/ea. and used later for ammo. Almost anything is better than on the wall, look what I’ve got open racks.

Double-slot shelf tracks with shelf supports covered with pipe insulation or slit pool noodles.

Only thing left behind are holes. Or, potentially, a storage shelf rack.

A handy person could run some plastic-coated aircraft wire under one of the shelf tracks to make a tie-down loop.

I have seen old beater gun racks like pictured below for a few bucks at swap meets and second hand stores.

That or buy several boards, make a template and use a jig saw to cut the shapes. You can likely stack eight guns or more per single stack. Just a few anchors to place it on a wall.

Moving in with the wife's grand parents seems like a good excuse to make a nice rack and keep yourself busy at home . I have downloaded templates for one online they are easy to find on google

Walmart. Stack-On Sentinel 10-gun steel security cabinet. $99.97 all day long. About $150 for the 18-gun. Otherwise find some used school gym lockers on Craigslist or FB Marketplace. That’s a very inexpensive way to keep little or curious hands away while being useful down the road.

Yep, and you can line it with built in shelfs and use it for ammo storage when you move and get a nice safe .

When I moved a lot I had old 2-3 rifle racks that I mounted high up, overhead in a closet. May work for you also. Keep them out of the way in a space that isn't used anyway.

I have also cut 1/2 circles into plywood and screwed it to the underside of an end table to turn it into a "rack" of sorts.

Or, how about one of the rotating racks to put into a corner.

None of those are secure but if cabled together and locked to an eye screw put into a stud it will stop kids and a smash/grab.

I used a long skinny wood pallet one time. Cut out slots on the backside that has only about three cross members. (My younger sons still use it 32 yrs later)
